I was attracted to this watch because it has no chest strap and it seemed to have all the functions I was looking for. Unfortunately, it is not very reliable.

If you are looking for an accurate heart rate monitor to use in conjunction with exercise, this is NOT the one for you. I have found that it will measure my heart rate quite accurately at rest or during ordinary every day activity. However, after 10 - 20 minutes of exercise, the heart rate function becomes very erratic and very often won't give a heart rate reading at all. Most commonly it sounds a warning alarm, indicating that the heart rate is above the selected zone. When I check my heart rate I find that it is either within or even below the chosen zone. This problem seems to be associated with increased sweating, which in my case is associated with exercise. So I find this monitor to be of limited usefulness.

It is a very nice looking novelty watch but not much more.

UPDATE 14/8/12 - I HAVE BEEN IN TOUCH WITH THE MANUFACTURER

With the warmer weather, the heart rate monitor has started to malfunction more frequently. It allows a maximum 10 minutes of exercise before ceasing to function properly.

I contacted Beurer in the UK via their website to let them know about the heart rate monitor's malfunction. They referred the query to their technical support in Germany. Their response was as follows:-

"I have received the information back from technical support in Germany with regards to the issues they are saying that an increase in sweating can cause problems.
If there is a short-circuit between the metal plate on the back and the metal electrode due to sweating, this can cause faulty results or no measuring at all.

I bought this because like others I was concerned that the monitors on Gym equipment were inaccurate. It is a nice looking watch but as a heart rate monitor is not up to the challenge. When exercising if you are sweating - normal? - it will not read the heart rate it just does not function, if you dry your wrist it will work but all a bit difficult when exercising. Its for this reason I would say do not buy.

I bought this in order to check my heart rate whilst exercising and have only used this facility, therefore my review is only based on that.

The reading differs depending on skin heat/sweat so it isn't always accurate. I can only presume that the first reading is the accurate one.

I would not recommend it to anyone

Do not buy this as a heart rate monitor for use during exercise. You have to touch the metal surround with your free hand to get a heart rate reading. I would also say compared to a chest strap heart rate monitor it is way off what your actual heart rate is. There are other functions on this watch but I have not looked into these. I have given this 2 stars because it does tell the time and does have other functions but for me I wanted something I could just look at and see what my heart rate was.

Not really an active sports watch. The watch is very accurate and the HR monitor also gives an accurate reading but wont work if your wrist is sweaty so not much good when exercising at all strenuously. I bought it to keep an eye on my heart after surgery and it does this quite well. It is neat enough and seems sturdy so I think it is probably worth the money as an everyday working/gardening watch.

I bought this heart rate monitor to keep a check on my heart rate at the gym as I am never very sure wheather the gym equipment readings are correct. It seems to agree with the readings on most of the equipment and also when I take my pulse it agrees with that too so I would say its accurate. Its a nice looking watch, not too big,its well made and has a lot of functions most of which I haven't sorted out yet and probably wont need. It also keeps good time. The instructions could be clearer, I find them a little confusing but no doubt when I have time to sit down and read them thoroughly all will become clear.
Pleased with the purchase though. Have given it 5 stars though I could have knocked one off because of the instructions.

Does what's required. Reads your heart rate without having to wear restrictive chest strap.
Yes it can stop reading if you become wet from sweat but this is simply remedied by just popping it over your wrist when you need to take a reading.

Has helped me through Insanity workouts...

I bought this as a present for my husband and he really loves it. It's easy to use, and I'm impressed with the quality given the price.
