Product Description

The motorsport world of Formula Primo is one of high speed and fast living, where relationships are made and broken on and off track, and trust is the fine line between a trophy finish and a long walk home. Rookie driver John Mitchell makes his Formula Primo debut, plunging into the tense rivalry between two racing teams.

Historical arguments seep into the present when Mitch starts his first race, and ends it in the gravel. What could give Mason Mortimer such a desire to ruin the career of a new driver he’s barely laid eyes on?

Although loyal to the boss that gave him his break, Mitch begins to realise things are not what they seem. The season progresses and luck is never on his side. Could the answer be held with the driver who caused him such early heartbreak?

Christine writes commendably and delivers this short story on the simple premise:

Its Short
I read this in probably an hour or so, I don't remember the exact time - but it was shorter than the trans-US flight I read it on.

Easy to read
Christine is new to novel-writing, it is apparent. The genre is well suited to the level of writing, you aren't going to find bukowski-riddles, or distracting F1 jargon. It's leisurely focused, which works well.

Interesting
I'm a huge fan of Formula 1, and this short does a great job at delivering an interesting, but topical story without being tedious.

Choose your own adventure
I didn't realize this until after I read it, but Christine used feedback from sidepodcast.com to guide the plot of the novel. Quite an interesting premise, after reading the story it caused me to appreciate it more.

More to come
I expect that there will be more stories along these same lines, I look forward to reading them.

If this looks appealing to you, you'll also probably enjoy these other titles, which give an interesting "What happened on this day in formula 1". Again, super simple, leisurely and interesting reads.

I really enjoyed Between The Lines - while not being overly "technical" it captures the soap opera that is professional racing while also giving some insight as to what its like to sit in a race car. This summer I started amateur competitive racing in a vintage Formula Vee and in the book when Mitch's engineer reminds him to breath I laughed because I have to remind myself of that very thing every time. The story took a couple of turns I didn't expect, since I figured it would follow what was more likely to happen in "reality", but it made the story a little more interesting and left me ready for the next installment. Good job Christine, bring on Season Two!
