More About the Author

Greetings from the beautiful wine country of Sonoma County, California. I've lived here many years, but I still miss my long walks on the beach on foggy Aptos mornings. I lived in a little house there for a decade, and have written my first two books as a sort of love letter to the place.
Sweet romantic suspense with a touch of the supernatural, Marina's Tales is a YA series that's appropriate for all ages. I'm currently working on the third installment, and expect it to be ready by the fall of 2011.

Happy Reading!

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable and romantic summer read 15 Jun 2011
By Amber
Format:Kindle Edition
When I was contacted by the author, Derrolyn Anderson, to ask me if I would like to review her book based on the idea of mermaids I didn't even hesitate to say no. How could I turn down a teen-romance about mermaids? In my opinion there aren't enough of them. If you're getting bored of sparkly vampires and sulking werewolves then this is the book for you. It's magical, romantic and set in a beautiful seaside Californian town. What more could you ask for?

Marina is sent to live in Aptos, a small town on the coast, and at first it's safe to say that she really isn't keen on the idea. But eventually she settles in with the help of her kind and welcoming relatives and it helps that there's a really hot guy who's taken a strong liking to her. Ethan is one of those gorgeous, Californian surfer types and I had to admit that I did fall for him as soon as he was introduced.

The protagonist is a strong, independent character and you'll take an instant liking to her. I enjoyed her narration and I found her story to be deeply compelling. She was a very determined girl and I really rooted for her to discover things for herself - she ignored a lot of advice from her friends which sometimes didn't always bode well, but I think if I had been in her position I'd have probably done the same thing. Her relationship with Ethan was cute and adorable and I liked that it wasn't rushed. I felt like I was being teased with Ethan's presence a little bit - one minute he was there and would maybe have one line of dialogue and the next minute he was gone. Cheeky! This was a good device used by the author to reveal snippets about Ethan without giving everything away about his character in one go. It was nice to learn about him slowly.

5.0 out of 5 stars SupaGurl Books Review 2 Jun 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I really enjoyed Between The Land And The Sea, even though I though I was into this "type" of books. I so am! Marina is a strong female lead character, and her family and friends are awesome. The story is great and I wouldn't have changed a thing about it. I have already "dove" into the next story in this series to see where the story goes. I think this is a great start and would recommend this for young adults to everyone over young adult levels.

5.0 out of 5 stars Charming and intriguing 4 Oct 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
What a brilliant story. To be honest I was just expecting a simple slightly cliched story. To my delight I found this intriguing, ingenious and unputdownable. I genuinely became absorbed and interested by the story and characters. A different and wonderfully credible tale. I'm off to buy the sequel immediately. Very impressed. Loved it

4.0 out of 5 stars Review: Between the land and the sea 24 April 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
We really enjoyed this book, all three of us!

It was our first time reading a story about mermaids so it was extra exciting.

Marinas character was interesting and a mix of a fashionista and a really down to earth girl.

Coming to high school for senior year is not the easiest thing in the world, especially if you have been home schooled your entire life. Things start to look up for her though when she meets the hottest guy in school named Ethan.

Ethan's character is very lovable and of course we fell for him right away.
I mean who doesn't love a well tanned/toned surferboy who also happen to have a great personality. Marinas cousin Cruz takes her under his wing from the very beginning of the story and is a great support for her especially when she is new to town. Cruz character was very different from what we have met before in storys and we love that!

The first few pages felt a little slow, but it was absolutely no problem getting into the book.
As soon as she came to Aptos the story picked up the pace and started to be more thrilling.
The book took turns that we didn't expect and that was what made it so good.
If you like mermaids this is an absolute must read!
