5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic 28 May 2004
By IWFIcon VINE VOICE
Format:Audio CD
Back in the days when "rock" female singer-songwriters weren't the height of fashion, this album came out and just blew me away.
Less commercial than some of her contemporaries, such as Sheryl Crow, but at the same time not as alienating (in terms of radio friendliness) as the likes of Liz Phair, this album finds a happy balance somewhere between those two ends of the spectrum.
No track outstays its welcome, and Patti perfects the art of the three-minute single (even if chart success never did touch these songs. Indeed this is one of those rare albums where you really can say that every track could have been a single and you can listen without ever once reaching for that next track button on your remote control.
It's sad that this album didn't bring Patti more commercial success than it did, but don't let that distract you from what a great record this actually is. Superb.

4.0 out of 5 stars WELL WORTH IT 8 July 2005
Format:Audio CD
The first of these songs I heard was INSIDE. I was a teenager with "no one understands me" syndrome & I liked this straight away. The second was FLICKER, which also didn't disappoint. I hunted high & low for this album as at the time the bog standard music shops didn't have it, when I eventually found it I was delighted. The rest of the album trips through several different moods but I can say from experience that any stubborn girl looking for pleasure in singing away this does the trick. I'm not going to say that I love every track on there but I can see how each song can appeal to different people in different ways. It's worth the time, the money & certainly a listen.

3.0 out of 5 stars NY Blue 27 April 2004
By Is
Format:Audio CD
Patti Rothberg is a cool East-Coast chick with a guitar and an album fullof the sort of songs that should be performed on a grungy little stage ina downtown music club. The melodies are always immediate, the lyrics soundlike they are scribbled by a Ghostworld schoolgirl in a kinky skirt.
Tracks like 'Butterflies' or 'This One's Mine' give you ants in your pants(and you need to DANCE!), 'Looking for a girl' hits the right sarky toneand 'Perfect Stranger' is a spikily defiant little number about fallingfor the wrong people. All in all, Patti sounds like the kind of girl itwould be a lot of fun hanging out with. You could do worse than meetingher between the 1 and 9.
