If you love pin-up art(cheese cake) and never come across any of Olivia's art, where have you been hiding. She maybe a modern artist but her heart is in the past, less Hajime Sorayama and more Gil Elvgren. Its the perfect coffee table book you don't have to hide. With over 50 paintings plus some studies of the one and only Queen of pin-ups Bettie Page. Now I must confess I love Bettie Page and adore Olivia De Berardinis's reworks of old Bettie photo's so much that three of my five Bettie tattoo's are Olivia paintings. Now this book i can saftly say would be perfect for Bettie fans and pin-up art fans alike. Foreworded by Hugh Hefner plus a interview with Bettie Page. Now for two simple words,Buy It!

Format: Hardcover
Olivia reworks the Yeager and Klaw periods of Bettie's imagery, accentuating the sexual magnetism of the raven haired feminine allure. The original bondage sessional work appealed to a primarily male aesthetic. Tastes have shifted from the brown paper bag under the counter world of the 50's. Bettie, once cited for her ability to corrupt, is now an icon of the world for all the different sexes.

Olivia captures the display of the adorned beauty of the Yeager period and the sexual sparks of the Klaw years snaring the innocence and sensuality. The art is less "I think therefore I am", intellectal postering, to "I feel it therefore I want it". An appeal to more basic truer needs. Olivia captures the woman as an artwork, not in terms of objectifying beauty but in celebrating it.

The pictures radiate an effervescence of allure, lust and joy. Burlesque originals with red leather, black leather, mermaids, cops, dominatrix, cowgirl, showgirl and deville.

Leave it around the room, note the reactions, this book will divide the population, taking converstations down byways yet to be explored. The imagination should always be liberated from what is, to what it can be.

The beauty of Olivia's portrayal is that it never descends into gynealogical expose's, it has a beauty and elegance to capture the hearts of women who adore Audrey Hepburn. Those who placed to oneside she played the call girl in Breakfast at Tiffany's. Olivia gently coaxes the risque, the inherent beauty within women to beckon and emerge. Olivia also reinterpreted the allure of Bettie for a modern generation breaking away from the current obsession that new and shiny is best, the evolutionary slug trail of the market ad man. In the hinterlands of modern history artistic pearls, rubies, emeralds, sapphires and diamonds await to be picked from the surface of culture. Olivia just plucked at it first.

No higher calling for an artist.

BETTIE PAGE BY OLIVIA - If you thought that the pairing of the world's premiere pin-up artist Olivia, and the most celebrated pin-up model Bettie Page, would be a match made in Heaven, you would be one-hundred percent correct. Like peanut butter and chocolate, the two were made for each other. Bettie Page by Olivia is a brand new book from Ozone Productions featuring over 50 paintings of the reclusive Ms. Page by Olivia.

Hugh Hefner provides the foreward to the book that gives Page & Olivia fans 80 pages of delectable art. Why Hefner? Well who better? Page appeared as a centerfold in the magazine in the 50's and many of Olivia's Page paintings first appeared in Playboy.

Several pieces are what I call progression pieces. We get to see Olivia's preliminary pencil sketches on one page and the finished painting on the next. A great example of this is on the painting entitled The Substitute, as it's a Bettie in thigh-high leather boots and black mini skirt taking over the classroom as the new teacher.

"Hot Sauce" will sure to be a favorite among fans as Bettie is decked out in a provocative devil outfit: red leather boots, arm-length red gloves, and red leather bra and panties, complete with devil horns and a little tail. The two pieces with Bettie dressed up in a French Maid's outfit are also sure to please her legions of fans.

An index in the back of the book provides the title of each painting as well as the medium in which it was completed, and where the piece originally appeared. Kudos to Ozone for including the index, something that is agonizingly lacking in many art collection books.

There's something for every Bettie fan to be found within these pages. Fetish fans will love Bettie, again all in red leather, riding crop in her teeth, or the piece entitled "Rawhide" where cowboy Bettie is getting a spanking from a gorgeous blonde Indian maiden.

The icing on the cake in "Bettie Page by Olivia" is an ultra-rare interview with Page, now in her eighties, conducted by I.S. Levine. In the interview, Page talks about her rural upbringing in Tennessee, as well as how she first broke into modeling. While Page was one of Playboys earliest centerfolds (1955) she didn't meet Hugh Hefner until some forty years later in 1996. It's a short, but fascinating interview.

Rounding things out, Olivia shares her own feelings on Bettie and what makes her such an intriguing subject, not only for her own work, but also for all the Bettie fans around the world. It's a magnificent book. Cliché as it may be to say, this is simply a must have for fans of Bettie page or Olivia.

We Love It ! 27 Feb 2007
By L. Simon - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
I purchased this book for my Granddaughter who is into collecting 40's and 50's memorabilia, and especially likes Bettie Page. The book is beautiful and full of gorgeous color pictures. My Granddaughter has it in her beauty salon (Rock A Betties in El Cajon, CA) and everyone who looks at it flips out. I'm very pleased that I purchased it for a gift, and Amazon rocks for getting it here quick!

Over priced 31 Jan 2009
By D. A. Wade - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
It's not a bad collection, but to be honest I was disappointed with the quality of print. Colors seem to vary from page to page, this isn't a publication problem; just really a poor collection of plates to print from. I know this as I have worked in printing to spot this.

To be honest it's a neither yes or no. I returned this for a refund as I thought it was over priced for what I got.

I think a lot of others have been happy with it. Personally I'd look elsewhere for a different collection in print.

The Pinup Queen of the 50's.... 24 Feb 2007
By Elliot Reed - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
This is a very good book in terms of Bettie's changing style and how well Olivia portrays her. This girl next door who became one of the greatest pinups of the 50's as well as today is portrayed quite well. The artwork is great and much of it can be seen in Olivia's other books (Cheesecake and Second Slice) but in this version the normally topless or otherwise nude photos are redesigned with coverage. However this are still beautiful paintings-these are not pornography. Those who appreciate this and Olivia's work will greatly enjoy this book.

Beautiful book for Bettie fans 9 Aug 2007
By H. Heaven - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
This book appears small and thin but contains a very large amount of amazing Bettie inspired works by Olivia. Included are a few pages of the progression of sketches to reach a completed work. The opening comments from Hugh Hefner are excellent. If you love Bettie, Olivia and especially both, you will love this book.
