I love words. I love this book. I wish I'd had this book when I was 18 -- or younger. There are sections on spelling, confusables [yes, that is a word], foreign phrases, word elements and lots of topics, such as Architecture, Animals, Art and Ships. And there are some beautiful line drawings. The best section is called a Lexicon of Hard Words. It's great fun to check the words you know [such as ablation] and to wonder at new words you should know, such as foudroyant, goliard and zillah. Although you can get all this information from OED on-line, this is a lovely little treasure of stuff to have close at hand when the system goes down.

Not as good as I expected. Did not learn much from it - I can use a dictionary to or thesaurus to find unusual words that I want to check out. Generally - disappointed
