Aldous Huxley.

Product Description

New, larger format – even easier to read! – edition of this classic self-help health title. Still includes the pull out chart.

The original Bates Method book was a classic – but in a tiny little A format and with a Victorian looking design that was hard to read – and in much need of updating for today’s market. So the new edition has an increased the page size and a clear, modern design that’s easy to read and follow.

The rationale behind the Bates Method is that if you wear glasses or contact lenses, chances are you don’t really need to.

Prescription lenses act as a prop for the eye muscles so over time the eyes actually get weaker. In the long term, glasses will only ever weaken the eyes.

The Bates Method restores sight firstly with a series of exercises that relax and soothe the eye muscles – the equivalent of massaging away tension build up – and secondly retrains the relaxed eyes to focus effectively.

The exercises are straightforward and easy to incorporate into daily life.

It really does work!! 20 Mar 2002
Format:Paperback
I received my order of this book yesterday and read the first half of it. I tested my eyes against the supplied eye chart before I started.

I have 20/20 vision in my right eye but a lazy eye on the left and I could only read the top couple of lines with it.

I tried a few of the exercises in the book and could read down to the 3rd line on the chart within minutes and even some of the letters on the fourth and fifth line.

Today I read the rest of the book and tried again.
I could read down to the seventh line with my bad eye and could see even clearer with my good eye.

I even read some of the book with my bad eye alone whereas before all I could see was a grey blur.

If this is the result after two days then it cant be bad. I am determined to obtain clear sight in my bad eye and then go back to my optician for a test just to prove there is a difference.

I have never had to wear glasses since I left school because the eyesight in my good eye is very good, but even good eyesight can be improved with this book.

It is definitely worth a try.

Highly recommended.

It works! 13 April 2005
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This book is rather heavy-going at first, and it took me a while to get the hang of some of the exercises. Once I started doing them correctly, however, I did notice a marked improvement in my vision. Slight, but noticeable. If performed regularly every day, I probably could improve my vision to near-normal.

The author challenges the orthodox concept of accomodation (your eyes' ability to focus correctly) and the proof that his theory is correct is that it does actually work. The theory is this. Your eyes shouldn't be *trying* to see, they just should. As he says, your senses can not act themselves, they are to be acted upon. As soon as your eyes make an effort to see, your eyesight begins to deteriorate. Any eyestrain, therefore, is a result of mental strain.

He cites the example of a young girl who had a keen interest in astronomy. She could see the moons of Jupiter with her unaided eye, yet ask her to look at some maths sums on a blackboard just a few metres away, and she became myopic. This is because maths was disagreeble to her. This caused mental strain for her, which in turn caused eye strain and hence reduced vision.

Remember that if you have worn glasses for a number of years like I have, you won't be able to get such quick results as the previous reviewer did. Don't let this put you off. £6 is not much, compared to laser surgery! And a much better investment than paying £70 for a pair of glasses which are actually doing you more harm than good. The author correctly states that after a few days of going without your specs, your eyesight will improve (I can confirm this is true - your withdrawal headaches also go).

If you are thinking of buying this, ditch your glasses before the book arrives, to give yourself a head-start :)

Having read this book and passed it onto all my friends there has been a noticed difference to the amount of time that we all need to wear glasses.

Easy to read and very beneficial

you will pass this book onto all your friends and then need to buy another copy as one never gets the original copy back!

Something missing
Book was fine except for the eye test sheet was missing, which seems quite important. I am only about a third of the way through the book but the author keeps referring to it.

Better eyesight without glasses
This book came quite quickly and was a bargain. Good seller. Would use again. The book itself is a little hard to follow, but I'm going to have a go.

Works very well but make sure you keep up your regular eye tests
I am lucky enough to be in my mid 40s with still perfect eyesight. Both my parents had terrible eyesight and were almost completely unable to see without glasses. Read more

Original, to not say weird
This book makes two claims that you might find surprising:
1. Glasses are harmful because they make your eyes adapt themselves to seeing badly, instead of getting better. Read more

Dangerous book !!
Very ponderously written, full of outdated theories that have never been proven. Nice to hear that it helped a few readers, but that's not a scientific trial. Read more
