All About Eve is one of the wittiest films ever to come out of Hollywood. Bette Davis as Margo Channing gives one of her finest performances and she is surrounded by a splendid cast all of whom match her. Anne Baxter's Eve is magnificent. In The Virgin Queen Davis repeats her role as Elizabeth 1. It is a glossy, historically dubious affair, but thoroughly enjoyable with Richard Todd proving a suitably dashing hero and Joan Collins - never much of an actress - looking as lovely as any of today's celebrity stars (they don't call them pin up girls any longer). Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte is a neat melodrama with Olivia de Havilland standing in for Joan Crawford - it is enjoyable, although the Crawford/Davis pairing would have made it even more so. A good package this.

This set contains three BD classics (All about Eve; Hush, hush sweet Charlotte; and the Virgin Queen) published in an elegant set. I was amazed by the great number of subtitle options (such as Czech, Polish, Hungarian, etc.)! Well done!

Our friend just called to thank us for that wonderful surprise of the Bette Davis collection, we had sent to her. Whenever a Bette Davis movie came to town you can guarantee a full house, she was a marvel to watch. In our time as teenagers the movie theater's in Glasgow were filled to the brim by movie-goers. Just after the second world war there was a lot of hardship but watching Bette Davis on screen, made us all forget our troubles for a couple of hours.
