TOP 50 REVIEWERon 28 July 2014
Alice hasn't dated for three years after a disastrous relationship went badly wrong. Making a decision to completely change her life she's moved to London and is totally focused on her job. Dating and relationships play no part in her life. That is till she discovers she's the subject of an office bet. Distraught she's having a crying jag in the ladies toilet, that's where Harry the office Romeo finds her, she doesn't tell him about the bet she's discovered, but she does confide that her life consists only of her job. He offers to help her get back on the first step of the dating ladder. After thinking it over she decides that she can use Harry as a guide for the sort of man to avoid. She just needs to study his methods, so that in future she can recognise and avoid the players like him.

This is an above average story for this publisher. The author has a very pleasing writing style. While I liked Alice immediately, Harry was a little more difficult to connect with, he wasn't a very nice man. I was surprised Alice who seemed very on the ball didn't put two and two together. But I did enjoy Alice and Harry's relationship there were moments of humour and sadness. Of course it's obvious what's going to happen and I was totally looking forward to a Harry getting his comeuppance.

That's another of Charlotte Phillips books I've read and devoured. Stellar writing, great fun setting and lots of steam. I loved the bet aspect and thought the way Alice used it to her benefit was brilliant!

This is the first book I've read by this author. I enjoyed it although it was not what I would call an outstanding book. I liked the interaction between Harry & Alice. She was feisty & certainly gave Harry a 'run for his money'! However, Harry was really a pretty unpleasant character to start with. The whole bet ring scenario was tacky & he deserved to get his final 'comeuppance'. I'm not sure how I would feel about getting together with someone who could be that shallow. Given the subject matter however I enjoyed the book. It was a nice change to the typical M&B novels where the hero is always super rich, this being set in a normal office environment, with ordinary people. I will definitely look out for more books by Charlotte Phillips.

I have read a lot of books like All Bets are on and I ultimately have the same problem with all of them. I don't like the whole bet storyline. It just ruins everything for me. There are pages and pages of sweet romance but I can never get into it because I can't get rid of the fact that one person has made a wager about the other, that their feelings may not be true and that at one point they felt so little disregard for the other person that they made a wager in the first place.

That was my issue with this. Frankly, Harry is awful at the beginning of this book. He has no regard for woman and especially Alice. Setting up an office betting ring to see who can bed her first is the lowest of the low and it put me off of him and the story because I knew that if someone had done something like that to me I could never forgive them and I would struggle to get over it.

Other than that everything else was fine, the writing and pace were good but nothing amazing. I loved the London setting and enjoyed many aspects of the story but that dark cloud of betrayal hung over everything for me.

The characters were alright. Alice was likable but far to up tight, there were times where she got on my nerves a little bit but I did feel really sorry for her. Harry was fun and charming but his revelation about love and woman came a little too late for me. There was not enough time between that realisation and the end of the book for me to forgive him.

All Bets Are On is an enjoyable romance which I am sure other fans of the genre will enjoy but the whole `bet' aspect really put me off.
