Product Description

Norwegian WWII thriller directed by Haakon Gundersen. Oslo businessman Tor Lindblom (Fridtjov Saheim) makes a good living from the war. Keeping the German occupiers stocked up with every black market commodity they need, he's also the owner of the Havana Club, where Norway's power-brokers come to party. Tor soon finds himself on a dangerous path, however, when after falling for the nightclub's singer, Eva (Lene Nystrom), who happens to be a double agent for the British, the club is paid a visit by auditors from the German high command.

Synopsis

Betrayal is a riveting war drama set in Nazi-occupied Norway. The film focuses on a night club owner who makes a killing supplying his country’s invaders with everything they desire.

I liked this movie; a clever, intricate plot revolving around a bent SS major, some dodgy dealing Norwegians and a British agent. The first hour reminded me of a gangster film that happened to be set in WW2, whilst the last half hour or so turned into an espionage spy thriller. To be honest, this is very much an attempt to copy the superb Black Book [2006] [DVD] but heh, so what, at least it is a 'copy' of a great movie. The biggest problem I had with this was the amount of Norwegians with moustaches. I found it difficult, at times, to spot one character from another, especially as a lot of the scenes happened at night. Still, no matter, it is still deserving of 4 stars. Good, solid entertainment for those who like WW2 films.

It's good to see that foreign resistant films are getting quite a decent run of outings of late over the last few years. This film deals with high level corruption amongst the Norwegian business elite and their Nazi overlords. Based on a true story involving the Norsk Hydro company of the Heroes of Telemark fame. The film is moody with an authentic atmoshpere and I like the cinematography. It's has reasonble pace and although I'm sure it will be nothing like 100% factual it does gel well enough especially knowing the rife corruption in the Third Reich. Lena Halstrom (Aqua fame) puts in a credible performance. Although if you watch closely while she is running through the woods at the end of the film her footware changes from period high heels to socks and trainers then back to high heels when she gets back on the train. A strange oversight but other than that I can recommend the film.

A bit melodramatic and perhaps not too realistic wartime story from occupied Norway, but apart from some boring song scenes it is good fun and entertainment.

A good film but it leaves a lot to be desired. It tries to be another BLACK BOOK or SOLDIER OF ORANGE(the Paul Verhoeven films)but does not quite holds one's attention.Still it is worth seeing .OK for the price I got it for.(under £3)

Firstly the imagery on the sleeve is misleading as its from Black Book and it in no way is a description of the content of this film, it's slow, the story very weak.
