More About the Author

Raised on a diet of Heavy Metal and bad intentions, Tim Marquitz has always been interested in writing, but it wasn't until about 1995 the urge became a compulsion. However, it would be many years later before the ability matched the interest. Fortunately, the two have reconciled...mostly.

Writing a mix of the dark perverse, the horrific, and the tragic, tinged with sarcasm and biting humor, he looks to leave a gaping wound in the memories of his readers.

A former grave digger, bouncer, and dedicated metalhead, Tim is a huge fan of Mixed Martial Arts, and fighting in general. Involved in the Live Action Role Playing organization, Amtgard, since he was fifteen, he derives great pleasure from bashing people into submission.

He lives in Texas with his beautiful wife and daughter.

A nicely wrapped up short story with a bonus nugget at the end!

Scarlett, Franks' Angelic cousin, awakes to attempted murder as a golden axe crashes onto her pillow and BAM! just like that you are thrown in to Heaven and the onslaught that raged above Frank's head during At The Gates (Demon Squad), fantastic piece of writing! Mr Marquitz ability to switcheroo between such strong characters is brilliant.
You get a 360 view of the story and the lead up to the last and first line of book No.2 and No.3, very clever.

"Prohibition Black And Blues" the additional nugget at the end is such a cute snap shot into Franks' world that you cant help but want more!

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect set-up story for At the Gates 18 Feb 2012
By BastardBooks - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
As I've mentioned multiple times before, I'm a big fan of Tim Marquitz's urban fantasy series, Demon Squad featuring Frank Triggs. A few months ago, short story titled Betrayal set in this world was released, this one with a side-character as it's narrator; Scarlett who's Frank's angelic cousin.

In Betrayal we find Scarlett in Heaven after the events of Armageddon Bound as she ruminates on her life and on how the situation has progressed to its current state. And then the fun begins. Betrayal is a two scene story which comes off as a "thank you" from the author for fans of the series, and as an opportunity to see the world from a different set of eyes than that of Frank. More than anything, Betrayal is the perfect setup for the latest release At the Gates as the events lead right up to the start of the book, but also it sets the right atmosphere, a more serious one, making a smoother transition.

Additionally to Betrayal, Tim has also included another short story in this release, this one featuring Frank in the Prohibition era in what I can only explain as an amusing story with a Valentine's Day inclination. Fans of mob history should get a kick out of it. This one is called Prohibition Black and Blues.

Both can be read and obtained freely.

In any case, I've read At the Gates which I think it's the best of the series so far, and this short story is a great set-up for it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good short story 21 Aug 2013

It is a nice little look behind the scenes, prior to the mayhem from the previous stories. Twists & a suprise denoument for Frank & Scarlett, & while I'd love to know how things work out for Frank, a prequel isn't a bad way to spend an afternoon.

I read this last night before going to sleep... and just had to come read/find/buy the whole story in the morning. (Sleep was slow to come because the possibilities of the story kept rolling into my head). I enjoyed both short stories very very much!

4.0 out of 5 stars An intriguing sample of the author's work 28 Mar 2012

It is so nice when an author releases a free short story so that we may sample their work. It's even better when there is a bonus story as well! I really enjoyed "Betrayal". It held my attention from the start, but even better was the second story "Prohibition Black And Blues". This story was set in the mobster days of the 1920s. It was a smooth & vivid tale that left me curious to read more of Marquitz's demon-related fiction.
3.0 out of 5 stars A letdown with qualification 13 April 2014
By Nurse Bill - Published on

First, I am a Demon Squad believer; I love the premise, I chuckle and laugh my way through the books, I enjoy the plot, I think the characters are well developed, and the writing is first rate. With that said, I think the only value to this book is to move the plot along. I found myself almost yawning at Scarlet's perspective. While I would have been put off (and wondered about the author's lack of creativity) if Scarlet had been written like a female Trig, I was surprised that Scarlet's character didn't have more depth. She didn't seem that interesting. Knowing how much I enjoy the Demon Squad series, this was a letdown. Fortunately, it was a short letdown that still had value in furthering the plot. Onward!
