Biography

Since recording their last album and during the course of over two years, the boys had become accustomed to the routines of their everyday lives. With writing and recording paused, Nick, Matt, Jamie and Alex were each able to indulge in their own bespoke approach to enjoying life in their early twenties.
Matt, ever the sophisticat, had settled back into life in Sheffield neatly. Initially, and very… Read more in Amazon's Arctic Monkeys Store

Product Description

CD Description

All hail the Arctic Monkeys, Sheffield's greatest musical export since Pulp and the latest dubious recipients of that bi-weekly tag "Saviours of British Rock". Don't get me wrong, though - I Bet You Look Good is certainly one of this year's most essential rock tracks. Singer Alex Turner is, quite splendidly, the bastard offspring of Jarvis Cocker and Craig Nicholls, and leads the Monkeys headlong into a sound best described as a ska Franz Ferdinand minus the artyness, plus a Yorkshire twang.

Sheffield has had its fair share of successful artistes, but these lads are incredible! Meaningful lyrics, great tunes and sung like they are really enjoying themselves. Listen to 'Fake Tales of San Francisco' & 'Mardy Bum' (a great local saying!) and you'll realise they are certainly not just another one-hit wonder. Keep it coming - destined to be one of the biggest bands of 2006 - in my opinion! Buy the album in January and enjoy it for the rest of the year.

What can you say about the Arctic Monkeys, well they've been causing a stir in and around Sheffield for over a year now catching the attention of the music industry and Radio 1 before finally signing for Domino Records.

Due to a number of tracks being available for free download on the net they built up a loyal following and tickets with a face value of less than a £10 have been known to swap hands for over £50 outside concert venues.

So what do they sound like, well they've been labelled 'The Northern Libertines' without the ego of Pete Doherty !!!

A bit of rock, pop, punk and indie make this band stand out especially with the great live performances they give.

Thier songs are about everyday life you can relate too with catchy lyrics and sing along choruses.

Thier one record release to date was on the independant label Bang Bang and was a limited edition release called 'Fake Tales of San Francisco' which was instantly sold out.

The best thing to come out of Sheffield in a while now !!!

Brilliant
Great song. It's such a catchy tune and when the bass line kicks in at the start, it's all you can do to stop yourself from erupting uncontrollably with the music. Read more

would Mozart like this?
I've only heard this song the odd time on the radio but the chorus just really bugs me - i think it's a bland statement with an absence of melody - is that what this... Read more

Good, but...
I do actually like this single, particularly the second track, but the level of hype and hysteria surrounding them seems peculiar, to say the least. Read more

You think this is good....
Amazing song.. the riff kicks you from the first note and then the amazingly perceptive lyrics describing a night on the pull in the local nightclub are just pure genius. Read more
