Diversity Rules 4 Nov 2011
By jess c scott | splatpunk - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
A refreshing and concise anthology--I enjoy "variety" in both life and literature, and I enjoy anthologies such as this one because of the diversity offered.

I'm familiar with the work of some of the writers featured in this anthology. It's so nice to see versatility and a love for writing (and respect for the craft) being given the priority over homogeneity (which is what the mainstream commercial traditional publishing industry encourages, fosters, and promotes, in the name of reaping profit$ from book$ with built-in audience$).

This anthology features tight writing and each author's style is given the freedom to shine. One of the things I liked most about all the stories is that they all show a genuine care for character development, which is refreshing (a lot of commercial fiction tends to be heavily plot-driven, with less emphasis on depth and insight). This is partly why I now spend more time reading classic books and indie works [more so than the formulaic fluff the commercial publishing industry has mostly (90% of the time) settled to offering].

I understand my review sways more towards a personal than objective tone (at points)--for me, reading is a rather "personal affair." I have a low tolerance for creative work that isn't somehow original and/or innovative, that doesn't bring anything new or of value to me as a reader, so I appreciate it greatly when I do find something that's non-cookie-cutter ;)

P.S. Be sure to also check out Bestseller Bound Anthology Volume 1.

Nice anthology of short stories 17 Sep 2011
By S. Warfield - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a very nice collection of short stories written by ten authors. These stories are of all genres, and are well-written. Some of the authors have written novels and others are hoping to. Either way, these are very enjoyable stories that engage the reader easily.

What Was Lost by James Sophi

The Art of Breathing by Jaime McDougall

Soul Windows by Jaleta Clegg

I Didn't Know His Name by Darcia Helle

Red Route by James Everington

Make A Wish by Susan Helene Gottfried

The Last Chance Motel and Mausoleum by
Joel Blaine Kirkpatrick

Isolation by Maria Savva

Beyond the Green Hillls by Tom Gahan

From Joy We Come, Unto Joy We Return by
Ami Blackwelder

Each of these gives the reader something to think about after reading them. The question of why characters did what they did came up frequently while reading. Readers of all genres should enjoy these.

Outstanding anthology 22 Sep 2011
By Sharon E. Cathcart - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
The Bestseller Bound gang has done it again! This short story anthology, ably curated by Darcia Helle, brings together ten very different tales -- each of them a hit.

As with any similar work, each reader will have different favorites. For me, the standouts were Joel Blaine Kirkpatrick's "Last Chance Motel and Mausoleum" (a clever paranormal tale) and Tom Gahan's "Beyond the Green Hills" (about politics and famine in early 20th century Ireland).

There is something for everyone here, across a variety of genres. Highly recommended.
