Most fans will already have these two albums and are maybe wondering if there is a point in getting this set? Let's see. What we get here is a nice (and limited edition) double jewel-case that contains Mick Karn's previous albums 'Bestial Cluster' and 'The Tooth Mother', originally released seperately in 1993 and 1995 respectively on the CMP Records label. There are no bonus tracks and no remastering - not that any was needed. The fold-out booklet reprints the original album sleeves inside and contains a track-by-track review, 'Bestial Cluster' summarised by Mick himself and 'The Tooth Mother' by an uncredited source. Both are interesting.
The albums themselves are a mixture of instrumentals, world music influences and stunning originality. Both of course feature Mick's unique bass playing (is he in fact the best bass player in the world?) and vocals and feature an array of guest appearances. Steve Jansen, Richard Barbieri and David Torn feature on 'Bestial Cluster'. 'The Tooth Mother' has contributions again from Torn and Barbieri together with Steven Wilson and Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree), Natacha Atlas, Jakko Jakszyk and Gary Barnacle.
So, if you're a collector then pick this set up. It won't be around for ever. If you're new to Mick's work or missed out on the originals then this is a good place to start.
