About the Author

Howard VanEs, M.A., has been committed to wellness and fitness for over 26 years. He has a deep passion for wellness and a desire to help people learn about the many ways they can improve the quality of their health and lives through mind/body methods. His experience includes weight training, martial arts, yoga, stress management training, and work from his previous role as a psychotherapist.

For over 21 years, Howard has been a dedicated practitioner of hatha yoga and has been teaching yoga for the last 16 years in the Bay Area of California.

Howard is the primary author and editor of the Letsdoyoga.com wellness book series: Beginning Yoga: A Practice Manual, Abs!, Release Your Shoulders, Relax Your Neck, Ageless Beauty & Timeless Strength, Meditation: The Gift Inside, and co-author of Office Ergonomics, Preventing Repetitive Motion Injuries and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. He is also the co-producer of the audio CD, Shavasna/Deep Relaxation, and creator of the Yoga on Demand audio program which features over 14 yoga audios. In addition to writing about and teaching yoga, Howard also leads yoga teacher trainings, wellness seminars and retreats worldwide.

Howard received a yoga teacher certification from Mt. Madonna Center in Watsonville, CA and has also received training from the advanced studies program at The Iyengar Institute of San Francisco. Howard also has an M.A. in counseling psychology. I've bought this to help me achieve the results I want with my belly! Since having my daughter I've tried all sorts and can't seem to get my abs back in shape but this book has really helped me! It's got great advice with tips and techniques and I think I've worked out where I've been going wrong! Okay so my belly isn't completely flat yet but I'm working on it and I genuinely believe at this rate it won't be long! I particularly loved the fact it has exercises id not even seen before and I've always worked out to some degree! It's also a great companion to the abs diet which I'm now following. I'd recommend to anyone wanting great stomach exercises with core workout advice and it's written in an easy to read style too!

What makes this book so valuable and useful are the clear, detailed instructions accompanied by really informative photographs. The easiest way to support your back is through strong abs, but one easy way to hurt your back is to do the exercises incorrectly - I know! This book tells you exactly how your body should be positioned so that the exercise will be both effective and safe.
I also like the grading of the exercises by `challenge level'. Returning from travel where the floor has not been an inviting place to exercise I can work back up in easy stages.

When I finished reading Health Tips:Rare tips To Surprise and Benefit You (Healthy Living Series) I happened to find this book. I couldn't believe how well these books compliment each other. "Health Tips" gave a lot of great ways to help you be healthy. This book was a great way to get in shape. Specifically focused on abs this book gave a wide range of things that you can do to get your abs in better shape than ever before. It also showed exactly what can be done for you whether you're looking to strengthen or tone your body. You'll be able to do it quickly and easily with this book.
This book combines exercises from a range of popular programs. That means things like yoga and pilates. But this book doesn't just give you a few exercises from each one and a lot of detailed instructions about how to eat right and what specific diet to follow. Instead, this book gives you 50 of the very best exercises for your stomach and abs rather than exercises that are only moderately good. It also focuses only on the exercise. That means you don't have to stick to some crazy diet in order to get the best results.
It doesn't even matter what level your at for exercise. If you've never exercised a day in your life or you're a hard-core athlete, these exercises will help you to feel even better and will get your abs in even better shape. All of the exercises are grouped in categories that will tell you exactly what they do for you, what areas they help, and what skill level you need to accomplish them. That means that beginner or advanced, you'll get everything you need from this book and its great exercises.
Now one really great thing about this book that I found was it doesn't make a lot of promises. That means that you aren't being told that if you follow this plan you'll have solid abs in a week or two. You also aren't given a strict diet that will make you 'lose 100 pounds'. You're just getting a book of exercises that will help you to get in shape. In whatever amount of time that takes you will be able to do just that. You won't be in amazing shape in a week and you may not be in a month or two even but if you just do some of these exercises even just occasionally, you'll be able to start feeling and looking better.
I thought this book was great with the way it was set up and the way it didn't make any wild and crazy guarantees. It just told you the exercises you could accomplish in order to get in better shape. At your own pace and your own skill level you can do just that.

The older I get, the more I realize how critical a "strong core" is to well-being. This book does a terrific job of explaining anatomy and the importance of abs muscles in layman's terms. The variety of exercises, the varying degrees of difficulty --and especially the pictures--should mean no more excuses for not working on abs.

A great book, which does not only contain exercises to tone your abdominal muscles, it also talks about benefits and atonomy. Personally I like it, when exercises start with standing poses, followed by sitting and lying postures.
The exercises itself are easy to follow, especially with the fotos, which are useful especially for non-native-english speaker like me. The audio link with the pleasant voice of the instructor completes the experience. It ads some more fine points about the poses, I don't need to look at the picture each time and - for me - has the additional benefit that I can further improve my English listening to these instructions:)
