The above review refers to the UK version of The Best Of The Wildhearts. This is the superior Japanese version in all its splendor.The only problem i have with this compilation is that i don't agree with the track listing for the first CD. I've never liked "Dreaming In A" much and instead of "The Miles Away Girl" either "News Of The World" or "Love U Till I Don't" would have been much better. That's just me. Anyway, this Greatest Hits sets shows alot of thought. The A-Side CD is a decent plowing through the bands main attractions while CD2 features all the bands B-Sides to that point. The Wildhearts work ethic of going back into the studio to write B-Sides especially means that the resulting songs are of a far higher quality than your usual re-mix or album out take affair. To top it all of you have handwritten notes by Ginger in the sleeve describing the story behind (almost) every song. In retrospect it's not a complete Greatest Hits, because it was released when The Wildhearts parted with their label, so anything they released afterwards is obviously not here.

The band is good, but you know that which is why you are reading this review!
I like most of the tracksw on the album a lot, but perhaps they just don't show a great band at their best. There are more songs out there which would truly be a best of type compilation, but having said that if you are not familiar, then what a great intro to a very good hard rock band. More could have been done to get a 5 star album here.

I'd heard great things about the Wildhearts, but they were one of those bands I'd somehow missed out on. I bought this 'Best Of' V cheaply through Amazon as a taster. If you like loud, shouty, poppy, punky, rock, with masses of loud overdriven guitar, you'll love this. Fortunately I do rather gravitate towards those very things myself, so guess what......I love it!!!!!!
