4.0 out of 5 stars useful book for American genealogy 1 Feb. 2015
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I would recommend this book to anyone researching american ancestors. I particularly liked the first half of the book which included, for each website, an overview of the website, a paragraph on why this website and a paragraph on a search strategy. Pity this didn't continue to the second half of the book. However a warning: do not buy this book if you do not have any American ancestors, there are very few websites mentioned which cover anywhere else bar the U.S. Not what is indicated by the book's title ......

5.0 out of 5 stars paid for itself already 11 Feb. 2012
By the great she-bear - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
i just bought this ebook... after 'leafing' thru the few free pages, i found a website that brought me to an enormous amount of info on my great great grandfathers that served in the civil war... something i had not yet explored yet... i have a data base with 10,000 relatives that i have accumulated thru surf-googling the net for free and have amassed enough info to keep me busy til i am in my grave, but for $2.99 and such great results [i've just spent 3 hrs leap-frogging around gathering data with the portal i opened with the freebee! - i cut and paste all sorts of info into word docs to peruse at my leisure]

anyway, what can you buy for a few bucks? a mocha cocoa latte frappacino? GULP! and look ma, no calories!

101 OF THE BEST FREE WEBSITES FOR CLIMBING YOUR FAMILY TREE is not only an amazing resource of free websites to help with researching your family heritage, but the author also includes a detailed explanation of what information each site supplies. Definitely a tool that will help speed up the whole process as it will save a huge amount of time that would otherwise be spent in searching for these sites.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive, Informative, and Intriguing 5 Nov. 2012
By Sharyce A. Arciaga - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was pleasantly surprised by this wonderful book. I expected a simple narrative of facts that would lead me towards tracing my roots. Instead I was captivated by the wealth of information, her presentation, and the many resources that are offered to help accomplish the task of uncovering my family tree. Nancy provides many helpful resources that are very informative and she also adds interesting tidbits along the way. She has included excerpts that were written by people of the time period which imparts a feel for their experience. She provides a complete comprehensive list of resources covering everything from free statewide data bases and many online resources, including such records as ship manifests. She even includes records that are available to trace your Jewish roots if you are so inclined. There is a resource for records from 1892-1924 while another resource has information dating all the way back to 1620-1691. Not only will you be armed with a wealth of information to guide you on your search, you will be intrigued along the way!

3.0 out of 5 stars Nothing special 19 Jan. 2013

This book is OK but most of the websites they give send you back to ancestory.com which charges you quite a large fee to use their files. I did find a couple that got me to Ellis Island or familysearch.org but not worth paying as you can get this with a google search.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful! 2 Nov. 2012

Lots of info here! Yes, I could have found many of these resourses with an online search. Yes.... after houses of endless researches, trying to understand the difference between the offers found, what service to trust, etc... why to waste my time this way? Here I have the work ready for me: the author has made the search, has obviously discarded those not worthy, details the information for each service, evaluate them, saving me a huge work! I would have paid much more for such a book!! Really a great source and definitively really worth my buying!!
