I was listening to this album last week and the music kept me moving. You don't SIT in your chair, you DANCE, ;-)

Really love Apache and Hot Hot Summer Day. The latter one I found in a bargain bin when we were all still using vinyl. Haven't a clue what made me pick it up but as soon as I got it on the turntable, I loved it. The album features a long version of Rapper's Delight. It's the first time I've ever heard it. You know when you hear different versions of the 7" single cuts? Well, all those are included in this big recording. And it is huge - 14-and-a-bit minutes of it. I mean, you what!!!

I've still to play that on my radio station, ;-) I will be doing that. Lovely album.

This is a great mixture of amazing dance tunes with good rap lyrics. With one of the best hip-hop songs of all time in "Rappers delight" this album is a must have for anyone who wants a good dance album to listen to, who also likes their rap!

Jump On This!! 13 July 2005
By D. A. Billins - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Even without the classic Rappers Delight, I would have bought this this CD for Apache and 8th Wonder alone. Brings you back to a place and time when Hip-Hop was about the FUN instead of the GUN. To the misguided reviewer below "Super Pimp" - I for one DO get the point that you were just joking in order to get people upset. The only other alternative is that you really are as ridiculous as you sound. Peace 2 U 2.

pretty good greatest hits collection 9 Jun 2001
By Ronnie Kaufman and Matthew Simmons - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
the reason this cd gets 4 stars instead of 5 is because I bought this cd thinking i was gonna get the full 15 minute version of rappers delight, which i didnt, so i was greatly disappointed in that. Other then that, this cd if filled with a bumch of feel good rap songs from back in the day. tracks 1 and 2 are the best in my opinion, but there arent really any BAD songs on the whole cd, seeing how it is a greatest hits cd. If your not a huge fan of sugarhill gang, just soneone looking for some good ald school rap, then go get sugarhill gangs first greatest hits cd, but if your a big sugarhill gnag fan, like me, then go pick up there first greatest hits cd and this one.

dissin the Ol'school???? 5 Nov 2004
By OlSchool - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Of course the Album is great, it represents the beginning (even though I remember King Tim III preceeding it). Saying that Ol'School is crap because something that came out later is "better" or more sophisitcated is like saying the wright brothers' plane was a piece of crap because an F18 fighter would kick it's ass. Anyone who doesn't understand that will have a tough life.

Great 24 Mar 2005
By Deeyar Hekmat - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Sugarhill Gang's biggest hits are collected on this single-disc compilation. In addition to "Rapper's Delight" -- the first rap single to reach the pop Top Ten -- the group's seven other R&B hits are included on the disc, plus three other singles that never made the charts. All of the songs are presented in their original 12" versions. Not all of the material is first-rate -- in retrospective, the group's old-school groove tended to be a little simplistic, monotonous, and too polished, while their rhymes were frequently stilted and sometimes just outright silly -- but this music, especially "Rapper's Delight," is important historically. Most casual fans of old-school hip-hop will be content with purchasing "Rapper's Delight" on a various artists collection, but for those wanting to dig deeper into the trio's history, The Best of Sugarhill Gang is a defintive retrospective.

Rappers Delight- The Start of the Rap/Hip-Hop Era 20 Sep 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
When we think of old school rap, the first thing that comes to mind is the Sugar Hill gang. Back in the 70's, they were what brought us to dance clubs and parties. If it weren't for them, modern day rap/hip-hop wouldn't even exist the way it does. So in a sense we owe them a lot.
