Quite Good, But! 14 Oct 2010
By MelAus
Format:Audio CD
As said in other reviews, not very much different to the many compilations that have been around for a long time.

The audio quality here though is quite good, considering the original age of the product.

A note of caution here though. If like me, remembering well the songs and really wanting to hear them exactly as they were, some are actually re-recordings. Yes, by the same artists but often with a different backing and whilst maybe technically improved, they just don't cut the same impact.
This is a worldwide 'con' with releases of this type by the major studios and is often not referred to in the liner notes.

By the same token though, many tracks are exactly the originals and remastering with the available tweaks these days has made definite improvements.

If you haven't got many sixties songs then this set offers great value and will give you an immediate boost to your collection. But a message to the cd compilers is please use some different tracks to the usual selection. Just how many copies of I Got You Babe or Legend of Xanadu do we need? I bought this set for the few tracks that are not available elsewhere. If you need some inspiration I'm sure we can help with some suggestions. Some sleeve notes would be nice just like the good old days when I would study an LP sleeve while listening to those groovy sounds on the vinyl.

All the same stuff again. Notably there is nothing from the Beatles, Rolling Stones, two of the bands which created the 60s. And if you are expecting the original single version of Tom Jones' It's Not Unusual (described as Original Studio Version, Version 1), then you'll be disappointed. This is the really horrible 1980's remaster with the annoying clicking all the way through.
