Product Description

Product Description

"Round the Horne" ran from 1965 to 1968 starring Kenneth Horne, Kenneth Williams, Hugh Paddick, Betty Marsden and Bill Pertwee, the weekly comedy brought such characters as Rambling Syd Rumpo, Kenneth Horne Master Spy and Julian and Sandy. With its mixture of surreal humour, verbal games, parody and double entendre, the show pushed the boundaries of comedy at a time when permissiveness was changing society's values. "The Best of Round the Horne" features 20 scripts, chosen by series co-writer Barry Took. Most of them are being published for the first time, along with material which was cut before broadcast. The book includes an introduction to each script by the show's archivist Mat Coward, who has also annotated each script with more information.

...so I will! This collection of scripts from the second funniest comedy of all time (the Goons come first!) is fantastic, and just as much fun to read as it is to listen to the radio show - though you miss the many funny voices done by the cast. All your favourite sketches and more are contained here, and as an added bonus, material that was cut out is also included. The only slight let-down is that the infamous "crumpet" sketch doesn't appear here, even though we are promised it in the intro.
