For those of you who were around in the early 60's you'll remember that there were many American girl groups hitting the charts. The Ronettes were the best of the bunch with their slightly tough, bad girl appeal. Their biggest hit was "Be My Baby" which was released in 1963. I remember buying the 45 single and literally wearing the record out because I would play it over and over. Ronnie Spector's voice has a kind of haunting quality to it that once you hear it you can't help but be hooked. This entire CD is fantastic. Even though most of the songs never charted it doesn't detract from their appeal. My other favorites on this CD are "Baby, I Love You", "Do I Love You?" and "Walking In The Rain". I'm not sure how much impact American girl groups had on Britain in the early 60's but in the US the charts revolved around them. Only one thing knocked them off the charts and that of course was the Beatles.
