No it's not, the best rock'n'roll album in the world ever, that is. However it has been around in different formats for quite some time and totally pre-dates most, possibly all, of the rock`n`roll era material becoming available under PD regulations. The first disc of the pair still scores very well with Jackie Wilson's "Reet Petite" and Larry Williams' "Bony Maronie" being two great inclusions. Nice to have "La Bamba" as well.
There's a drop off in the rock'n'roll quotient on Disc 2 but it`s not without several of the classics. Mind you I`d like to meet the compiler who thinks that "Poetry in Motion" and "Sealed with a Kiss" classify as r`n`r. And Bryan Poole and the Tremeloes?. Is this the same compiler who always puts Bobby Vee's "Rubber Ball" on such albums (in this case on Disc 1)?
And I'm very puzzled about the presence of "Big Boy" Crudup's "That's all right". Isn't this just spelling out that whoever put the set together either couldn't, or wouldn't (because, presumably money was involved), get hold of Presley's ground shaking version of this song which, arguably was the most significant record in the whole history of rock'n'roll.
In terms of value I would advise looking around a bit before plumping for this one.
