Product Description

CD Description

* Maxine is one of Kent's longest serving artists and they have been responsible for discovering and championing her 1960s catalogue for over twenty years. Ace/Kent are still finding new vintage material from the Wand years and there are three previously unheard tracks on here.

* Two tracks are from CDs on the Ace label never before on Kent and the dancers' favourite `Am I Falling In Love' is on a solo Maxine CD for the first time.

* `Why Did I Choose You' is a great new uptempo dance find to accompany the original Kent-released Northern Soul tracks like `It's Torture' and `I Want A Guarantee'. Northern classics `One In A Million' and `Let Me Give You My Lovin'' are on here, side by side with Maxine's Brill Building ballads `Oh No Not My Baby' and ` It's Gonna Be Alright'.

* An updated replacement for the best-selling CD "Oh No Not My Baby".

4.0 out of 5 stars One in a Million 30 Jan 2012
By Mrs. T. A. Papworth TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD
I bought this cd 3 years ago and I'm shocked to see that no-one has reveiwed it. So here goes, as per usual with any 'Ace/Kent' cd release the cd comes with a very good, informative 16 page colour booklet. The cd itself runs 72.30 mins and has excellent sound quality. In my opinion Maxine Brown along with Doris Troy, Brenda Holloway and Bettye Swan was one of the best female soul singers of the 1960's. The tracks here are from 1962-66 (many discovered in the vaults & released by 'Ace' records firstly in 1985, there are 4 new previously unreleased tracks here as well). Many of these tracks - 'One in a million', 'It's torture', 'Let me give you my lovin', 'Yesterdays kisses', 'Little girl lost' and the fantastic 'She's got everything' are simply brilliant songs, and there are many more good tracks on here. This cd is a must buy. However, not all my favourite tracks of Maxines are on this one cd - also look at 'Kent' cd CDKEND 187 'Spotlight on Maxine Brown' & 'The Greatest hits' (this is a great 2 for 1 disc). Enjoy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Reissue label tricks 17 May 2013
By C Conrad - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This is called "an updated replacement for the older best-selling CD Oh No Not My Baby". I have that older CD and it's great. This new one has the same songs except that 7 of them are replaced by other songs. So you have to buy the other 21 songs that you already have to get them. If they would have put out a Best of Maxine Brown part 2, I would have bought it. Are there not enough tracks to make up a second part? I really doubt it. It looks like they want to put "best" in the title so they must include the songs everyone expects to be in a best of. This is really irritating.
