I was unaware that this particular CD from Peggy Lee existed until I came across it in a charity shop. The title is misleading though - these are not studio recordings - it's not a 'best of' collection - and the picture on the cover is not from the era this was recorded in. Also - this is no cheap dredging of the live archives either.

To my surprise it is truely wonderful live recording featuring a eclectic setlist - yes - Fever is there!

Peggy Lee came to London in March 1977 to record both for record and TV. One recording included a live set at the London Palladium which was released as Peggy Lee live in London. However a second evening was recorded by Ken Barnes but was never used until it was unearthed nearly twenty years later and released as 'Best of Fever' by Pulse - frankly all you good people at Pulse - you could have conjured up a more relevant title even though - from what I understand - The London Palladium is a copyrighted name. Those folks at Motown got to use it with Marvin Gaye's live @ the... but most likely paid a fortune to do so.

However - this recording is vastly superior to the Live in London LP and has a slightly different setlist. It has been meticulously mastered for the digital age. You could here a pin drop if anyone had actually dropped a pin that night in the Palladium. A magnificently recorded concert and hats off to the drummer of the Pete Moore Orchestra.

Enjoy!

THIS IS A COMPILATION OF TRACKS PERFORMED BY PEGGY IN MARCH 1977 AT THE LONDON PALLADIUM.
IN MY MIND SHE CAN DO NO WRONG - SHE WAS THE GREATEST FEMALE SINGER OF THE 20th CENTURY (AND I LIVE IN THE CITY THAT GAVE BIRTH TO THE WONDERFUL SHIRLEY BASSEY).
WHILST I MUCH PREFER THE ORIGINAL STUDIO RECORDINGS, THIS SET HAS SOME FINE MOMENTS THAT PLACE IT ABOVE THE NORMAL STANDARD OF LIVE ALBUMS, WHICH I USUALLY DISLIKE..
IN PARTICULAR HER VERSION OF 'THE FOLKS WHO LIVE ON THE HILL', ON THIS DISC, GIVES A DIFFERENT POIGNANT TONE TO HER MOST BEAUTIFUL RECORDING ACHIEVEMENT.
