Here we have a nicely priced single disc culled from the recent 3 disc box set of BBC recordings 'Bolan At The Beeb'. So, we're obviously missing a LOT of songs. However, this set serves the listener well as both an introduction to Marc's large BBC output and also stands up well as an album in it's own right.
On this release the tracks are not in chronological order and Tyrannosaurus Rex and T.Rex material sits back to back. But it still works because it's always Marc. As on the complete set the sound quality is excellent and belays the age and nature of these recordings. The booklet gives just the recording dates and details (no essay here) together with some nice shots of Marc.
And despite what it says on the tray inlay ("A lavishly package 3 disc set," - it's "packaged" guys - with a 'd'! - why can't record companies proof-read anything these days?!) I think this jewel-cased single disc is far better packaged than it's larger companion. If only the main set was in a 3 disc jewel case. After all, the reason behind jewel cases in the first place was to protect the discs! A card box and card sleeves is not lavish - it's cheap.
So, enough of my packaging rant regarding the 3 disc set, is this 'Best Of' worth it?

My God Marc Bolan was a F%$$% genius, these recordings are full of strength and they are SO DIRECT! It's unbelievable! No fixes, no mock ups. you got what they played.
You can listen to a band and his frontman pushing the energy to the limits keeping an intimate feeling onto every song.
All the classics are here... in fact I love the feelings of these live recordings much more than the studio ones, this compilation could serve you as a best of if you don't have one.
I actually have the 3-discs box set of these recordings, and to be honest you should get that instead because... it's just priceless to liten to the DJs, the jingles EVERYTHING. However, if that's too much money this single cd will do the job, but if you like it, the temptation to get the box will be too much. DON'T SAY I DIDN'T WARN YOU!!

These recordings are precious and fantastic ! I have the vinyl e.p. (4 songs incl.epic, mind stuttering "Elemental Child ")nice blend of the very early and popular middle period for Mr. Bolan & Co. perfect from start to finish incl. a personalized jingle for BBC 1 ! much love here .As you know, how he was able to mix these sounds together was , is a blessing to our ears. true original artist !
