Book Description

Best Music Writing has faithfully collected the year's most compelling writing on music for a decade now, so it's appropriate this special edition be guest-edited by one of the best-known writers on music and popular culture, Greil Marcus, author of Lipstick Traces, Mystery Train, Like a Rolling Stone, and other groundbreaking excursions into the very fabric of music, America, and beyond. As always, Series Editor Daphne Carr has culled an impressively wide range of essays, profiles, news articles, interviews, creative non-fiction, fiction, book reviews, long-format reviews, blog posts, and journal articles on music and music culture, from rock and hip-hop to R&B and jazz to pop, blues, and more. Writers who have been published in Best Music Writing include Alex Ross, Jonathan Lethem, Ann Powers, Dave Eggers, Susan Orlean, and more.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great book with Kindle formatting issues. 12 Nov 2010
By Albert J. Bunshaft - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I own most every year of this series and look forward to each new issue. 2008 was the first issue I read on my Kindle. Every now and then a book isn't ideal on the Kindle. This one has a story entitled "Six-Word Reviews of 763 SXSW Mp3s.. ". I go to SXSW every year and really looked forward to reading this article. It is unreadable, period. The printed book had tables, formatted horizontally, of reviews which look like they were scanned into the Kindle edition. They are virtually unreadable and when you turn the Kindle to read them, it rotates the page to horizontal mode, compressing them and again orienting them away from the reader. Argh! Totally frustrating and totally useless. If you don't mind skipping this story (which I am still P.O.'ed enough about to write this review!), then it's a great collection (again), so go ahead and get the Kindle edition.
