Product Description

Review

"Fresh and inspiring...The majority of the ingenious projects are not found in other craft books." Library Journal, USA

Product Description

"Why go shopping when you can make things at home using materials recycled from around the house? This classic educational and creative text features 125 projects, carefully selected by the author to develop natural curiosity and self-esteem, and to demonstrate simple and important concepts that have shaped the cultures of the world. The delightfully illustrated projects include: a bird feeder from clothes hangers; chocolate pudding finger paintings; beautiful fish and potato prints; a cardboard box loom that teaches weaving and maths; a simple pattern to sew shirts, trousers or dresses."

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is magical...genius...inspiring, 16 Feb 2009
By
Christina (Gloucestershire) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Best of Making Things: A Handbook of Creative Discovery (Paperback)
This book is clearly the life's work of a wonderful lady. it is brimming with wacky, original and easy to pull off creative ideas. Some small and quick, others involving bandsaws and more vision. But she makes it all do-able with her hand-drawn instructions and zest for life. In fact, the whole book is hand-drawn by her with no photos, but it's not a drawback as it's all very clear. Very environmentally responsible, pro recycling, hippy, friendly and properly fun. Great parenting and nanny resource. Brilliant!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for creative play!, 2 Oct 2007
By J. Starr Weems - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Best of Making Things: A Handbook of Creative Discovery (Paperback)
I own an old 1973 copy of this book. The entire thing is charmingly hand written, right down to the copyright page, which weaves all of the usually boring title information into a drawing of a little castle overlooking the sea.

This book has given me countless ideas for my art classes. Making Things contains projects that range from potato stamps to bread dough sculptures to candle dipping to clothing patterns, bubble makers, stilts, love beads, emergency hammers, hack saws, whistles as well as traditional crafts like sock puppets and crayon rubbings.

I can only imagine how wonderful the updated version of Making Things must be.

5.0 out of 5 stars When the weather is bad, 29 Oct 2008
By Margarita Sikorskaia "puma" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Best of Making Things: A Handbook of Creative Discovery (Paperback)
When the weather is bad and you are alone with your child, this book will make your life much easier. The wonderful thing is, that most of the projects don't even require much preparation and materials are found in every house.
