Product Description

Review

To celebrate 'Knits' tenth anniversary, 25 seminal projects (plus 11 'Beyond the basics' technical columns) were culled to represent the essence of the magazine. The chosen pieces, never flashy, are note-worthy in their wearability and knitterly attributes. Highlights include Kate Gilberts Union Square pullover, with its angled colour-tipped sleeves, Veronik Avery's Threepenny pullover, a curvaceous cashmere-blend aran, and Lana Hames's slinky Stripes Go Round, knit circularly with fauz side seams. Norah Gaughan, Leigh Radford, Joan McGowan-Michael and others are all accounted for so beautifully, it feels like knit-picking to wonder why there's no mention of the issues in which their lovely garments first appeared. --Yarn Market News, Oct 07

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice for Interweave newbies, 2 Aug 2008
If you have never bought an issue of Interweave Knits magazine, then buy this book. It features twenty-five of their most popular designs from the past ten years of the magazine, plus technique articles. It is an ideal introduction to the magazine which puts most other knitting magazines to shame.

However, do be aware that if you have been reading the magazine in the past three years, that a good chunk of the patterns come from this era, and you may end up with duplicates. The patterns taken from magazines I didn't own were sadly not to my taste and, probably due to the recent publication of Favorite Socks, there were no sock patterns in the book at all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and wearable Modern Classics, 8 Aug 2008
This is a lovely book, the designs are best described as modern classics. Each design is a modern interpretation of a particular stitch or type of knitting, with colourwork, fairisle, cables and lace all represented. There are lovely jumpers that the man in your life would be happy to wear; scarf and bag designs as well as ladies jumpers, cardigans, tanks and simple summer tops, plus two must knit shawls - the beautiful Icarus shawl by Miriam Felton, and the Forest Path Stole by Faina Letoutchaia. It's worth getting the book just for the shawls.

There are no sock designs or knits for children. The sizes go up to a 50" bust for many of the designs, but the designs have no bust or waist shaping so are less attractive to the super curvy.

The technical articles are excellent, something for the beginner and the advanced knitter. The knits themselves cater for the same range of skills. The book itself represents excellent value compared to the cost of buying individual patterns or a couple of magazines. My copy is already well thumbed.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Best of Interweave Knits, 29 Jun 2009

Interesting but not as good as the first one I bought several year ago. Too many samey garments that were boring.
