Product Description
Gemma and Alice, born on the same day, have been devoted best friends ever since. Despite Gemma's larger-than-life personality and Alice's quieter, calmer character, the two are inseparable - until that is Alice has to move house, all the way to Scotland. Gemma is utterly distraught, particularly at the thought that Alice might find a new best friend. Is there anything Gem's brothers, or perhaps her grandad, can do to help? Established fans, especially male readers, will be delighted to re-encounter the flamboyant Biscuits, co-star of Buried Alive! and Cliffhanger. A charming, funny and touching story will be adored by all Wilson fans from 7 upwards.

From the Back Cover
Alice is my best friend. I don't know what I'd do without her.

Gemma and Alice have been best friends since they were born. It never seems to matter that Gemma loves football while Alice prefers drawing or that Gemma never stops talking while Alice is more likely to be listening. They share everything. Then one day Gemma finds out that there's something Alice isn't sharing. A secret. And when Gemma discovers what it is, she isn't sure if she and Alice can stay Best Friends Forever...

A delightfully touching and entertaining story from a best-selling, prize-winning author.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great read for pre teens, good for girls and boys, 17 Mar 2004
By mazza (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Best Friends (Hardcover)
My son looked at me with disgust when I suggested that he read a Jacqueline Wilson book. 'Those are for girls...' he sneered. 'Well, just you have an open mind and give it a go. I mean, just how many decent srory books have you exactly found to read lately?'
Well, he shuffled about uneasily and conceded that there really wasn't much of interest left in his school library to read and so begrudgingly, he took the book away.
A few days later, it's all smiles and 'Jacqueline Wilson this...and Jacqueline Wilson that' and 'please can you get hold of some more of these types of books PLEASE!'
So this is a great starting point for a very competent 7 yr old, but perhaps more for an 8 or 9 year old. The children in the stories are still at junior school, so that's a good guide as to thw suitability of the starting age range. There's no upper limit - it's a great read for grown-ups too! The only reason why we decided not to give it 5 stars is that she (Jacqueline Wilson) has not got many starring roles for boys in any of her novels!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Friends------------ by Sophie Orr, 4 Feb 2005
By Sophie (England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Best Friends (Hardcover)
Best friends is a book about two girls who have known eachother since they were born. Gemma's mum was next to Alice' Mum in hospital and Gemma and Alice were both born on the same day. every year they share a birthday party and blow out the candles on the cake together. The are inseperable despite there different personalities. Gemma is rough and a tomboy. She is also very loud and talkative. Alice is very quiet the exact opposite of Gemma and likes to stay very neat and pristine without a hair out of place. When Alice had to move up to Scotland they were both devastated. So they ran away together on little money. Alice wore a black wig to disguise herself and Gemma very easily dressed as a boy. A boy called Biscuits recgognized them and told their parents. They both hated Biscuits because he was fat. When Alice left it was like one half was in Scotland and the other half was at home in Gemma's house. Gemma was miserable and got upset beacuse she missed Alice. When biscuits tried to be friends with her she liek totally blew him off and called him names and made fun of him. But eventually Gemma and biscuits became friends. When Gemma visited alice she was very happy. Alice had made friends with this girl called Flora who Gemma didnt like the sound of very much. They used her email address and computer to send mesages to eachother. But when Gemma came to Alice's to celebrate their birthday Flora was about to cut THEIR cake so Gemma shoved it in Flora's face. Gemma left Alice's house with her Grandad and she was forbade to come back. What would happen to the best friends? especially now they cant use Flora's computer for contact and Alice's Mum forbade Gemma to come to the house and hung up when Gemma phoned???????

Best Friends
By Jacqueline Wilson

This is a story about two girls called Alice and Gemma who are best friends. They had known each other since they were babies, but when they grew older they were split apart. Alice is a neat and tidy girl, but Gemma is the total opposite. Yes, yes you know what that means she is a total dirt bag and don't ask me why they're friends because I have no idea! The moral is that even if you don't see each other everyday and your friends have moved away you can still keep in touch. In our opinion. It is definitely the best Jacqueline Wilson book out of all of them; it is a well worth reading. Even
though the pages are long they are still packed with interesting things for every reader to enjoy. From sad moments to surprising things it is most definitely well worth the read. This book is suitable for ages 7 and up.
