For anybody into the late '70s early '80s era of british new wave Fischer Z should be considered among the best artists. With a very rare and precious sense of melody in their songs.Although the lyrics of J.Watts remind of XTC or DEVO(as so often mentioned) the sound of the group is closer to groups like Police, Specials or Joe Jackson.Typical trio or quartet sound with strong bass lines and even stronger rythm section playing from reggae to fast powerfull new wave/rocknroll.
Its hard to choose among their first 3 lps."World salad" may include "preety paracetamol" or "the worker" still lucks "so long""crazy girl" or "red skies over paradise".The same can be commented for the other lps and as i imagine only a few would buy all three of them this compilation really covers the needs for the rest of us.There is no strong song of FZ missing on this one.Invest!!!!

Expensive, but worth every penny 24 July 2002
By David Ljunggren - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
Fischer Z are one of the great all-time forgotten bands and this compilation is an excellent introduction to their work. My first brush with them was many, many years ago when "The Worker" came out as a single. Funnily enough, although it made a great impact on me then, now it turns out to be one of the weaker tracks. John Watts clearly has a superb imagination and the variety of the songs on The Best pays full homage to his talent. What particularly impresses me is how he maintained the quality of Fishcer Z's music over several decades, from songs like Red Skies Over Paradise in the early days to Perfect Day much later on. Now if only they'd re-release Word Salad, the first album, everything would be perfect.

Ever since I directed a video for John Watts single release "Worker" way back when, I have admired his work. He is a brilliant musician and lyricist. Get this album!! Other smart Brit, Steve Harley ("The Cream Of")

F.Z. are simply THE most underrated band of the 80-90's.BUY 16 Feb 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
When i first heard this band (F.Z.) i was in Ibiza, Marliese come storming out of the Juke box, what can i say, sold. Then my problem started ,finding records cd's etc. A great band with a lot of messages and brilliant melodies. That are caught on the `Best' of. Buy it , then go out and buy the rest......
The Original Releases Are Still The BEST! 30 Jun 2008
By David E. Maurer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Yes, this is a good collection by a band that has been, to the shock of many who remember them, virtually ignored. Collections are fine. BUT, if you want to go back and start with the originals, "Word Salad", the band's first LP, has been re-released in its entirety under the title "The Worker." Their second and third LP's, "Going Deaf for a Living" and "Red Skies Over Paradise" are available through Amazon. For those who enjoy this band, get them now before they disappear or sky-rocket in price.
