I have been a Chris Barber fan for over 50 years and I reckon this low price 22 track CD is the best value I've ever come across. Together with some rarely heard recordings the CD contains the premier tracks from 2 of my early vinyl records - the Sacred & Secular LP and Ottilie Patterson's eloquent and expressive rendition of Shakespeare's sonnets. Without repeating the entire listing I recommend the best of the sacred gospel music as `Lawd You've Been Good to Me', `Precious Lord Take My Hand' and `God Leads His Dear Children Along'; and the sonnets `Tell Me Where Is Fancy Bred', `What Eyes Hath Love Put In My Head' and `Blow Blow Thou Winter Wind'. Ottilie also presents a soulful contribution with `When In Disgrace With Fortune And Mens Eyes'. As always Chris Barber's band members all display enthusiasm and the music they produce is inspiring in whatever style is chosen. My favourites on this CD are `Wini Wini', `You Just Can't Win', `Young Fashioned Ways', `I Never Shall Forget', `Brands Hatch' and `The Ballad Of The Liver Bird'. Other Barber fans will unreservedly agree these include the best of Chris Barber's Jazz Band, and newcomers will become fans on first listening. This is a great 5-star CD.
