Having been a Nina Simone fan for decades I have a vast collection of vinyl recordings and a lot of the tracks gathered here are on them but my main reason for buying this CD is to listen to the three unreleased recordings ~ Baubles Bangles & Beads: a much simpler recording than the one on Silk'n'Soul, Gimme a Pigfoot : truly terrific blues with Nina at her vocal best. Why have we never heard this recording before? and finally Every Time We Say Goodbye which has rocketed into my top ten Nina cuts. This is Nina Simone at her best and most intimate ~ the voice sends shivers to places I never knew I had.
This whole collection is a must even for fans who have most of these tracks on old overplayed vinyl, like myself. The voice is legend and after hearing the newly discovered material represented here I wonder just how much archive material is waiting to be released.
For avid fans please look up Tell It Like It Is : rarities and and unreleased recordings 1967 - 1973 for some more genuine archive treasure

i've given this album 5 stars for the content. sinnerman is one of the greatest track ever recorded and the whole album is awash with pure nina simone quality, my only grumble is how can anybody compile a "best of" album and not included "my baby just cares for me" ? however if you are new to the work of nina simone just listen and be prepared to be pleased.

.."i loves you porgy", "mississippi goddamn", "don't let me be misunderstood".. when i bought this cd, all i knew about nina simone was "little girl blue". and i didn't even know this as a nina simone classic; i knew the janis joplin version.. basically first when i listen to nina simone i was amazed by her voice. and the more i listened to her, the more i liked her voice. this cd has got all her best.. it is a good starting point.
