This book is crammed full of birdwatching information and tips accumulated by the author over several decades of exploring and researching the area. The title is a bit of a misnomer because it also covers inland areas and not just the Solway coast. It contains valuable information on 33 key areas in Dumfries and Galloway and 24 areas in Cumbria and within these areas it provides details of access and what to see where. If you are a visitor with limited time you will find this extremely useful, but birders living within Cumbria and Dumfries and Galloway will also find much detailed information concerning places that they may not have even considered visiting in the past. I used the guide last week in the Cree woodlands and it led me to Knockmans wood , one of the nicest areas I have ever visited and I saw the expected birds listed in the book with no problems whatsoever. The book is well written and contains many interesting asides. if there were to be a fault it would be that it is slightly expensive, but having said that, all of the contents are totally valid and I personally think that it is extremely good value.
