1.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for 29 May 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Althgough the book provides a sampling of Beardsley's work, the paper quality leaves a lot to be desired especially for showing such an important artist. If you need a cheap and cheerful introduction to the artist fine but if you are serious then spend more on a better quality publication.

2.0 out of 5 stars Budget Beardsley 3 Mar 2011
Format:Paperback
many of his more infamous works are missing, perhaps they might cause offence?? paper is of budget-type quality. But reasonable for the price.

1.0 out of 5 stars Beardsley censored. 6 Jan 2012
By Curt Potteiger - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book is NOT the best of Aubrey Beardsley. Many of the illustrations are "expurgated" which mean censored. Dover Publications has deleted key components (shame on those involved) of the illustrations and Beardsley's meaning and artist expression. Genitals, which are on the originals, have been removed from his works thereby altering the actual scene. Beardsley himself said "I have one aim - the grotesque." and "If I am not grotesque I am nothing." He would have been insulted by this publication. This makes this representation of his work a travesty and not representational. Not recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hey, take a peek at this. 1 Oct 2000
By DJ Rix - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Inexpensive collection of Beardsley's black & white illustrations, mostly taken from other Beardsley books in the Dover catalogue. Some erotic penwork, but Aubrey's "obscene" art is quite tame by today's standards. Some of it even adorned the covers of magazines in his own time. Of course, the big value of this collection is that it's copyright free. You can use these illustrations in your crafts & collages or scan them for your websites. So, if you like that old decadent Nineties style (I mean 1890, not 1990), this book is one window you can peek through.

4.0 out of 5 stars A large collection of Beardsley's great works 8 Nov 2007
By Derrick L. Purdy - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Big fan of this book. It's hard to believe he created so much in so little time. This book shows off a lot these works in good detail. I believe this is a must for anyone into art nouveau or Beardsley. Beardsley's use of large black spaces and intricate detail is highly evident in this book. I give it a 8.5 out of 10. Cheers, enjoy.
5.0 out of 5 stars I am a big fan of Aubrey Beardsley's style of ... 12 July 2014

I am a big fan of Aubrey Beardsley's style of black and white work. He is head and shoulders above the rest. His style can be recognized in any context, ant the only English practioner in modern times that I am aware of is the writer-illustrator Tanith Lee
