4.0 out of 5 stars Make sure you buy the double not the single disc 30 Oct 2011
By Mr. R. G. Prizeman TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD
fields of gold was realised in 1994, that makes me feel quite old, this set has many of those tracks and a lot more as well. For me Sting was at his best on the slower songs such as when we dance, fragile and we dance alone, but saying that the up-tempo stuff like all this time, If you love someone set them free, are still quality songs. The double collection gives Sting's carrier space to breath fitting 25 years of hits on one disc just does not work, the two disc set does have its throw away live versions including Russians and demolition man which could have easily been replaced with the better studio versions. All in all this is a good collection, however my major criticism is the double cardboard sleeve, the discs are so tight inside its all most impossible to get the discs out,the booklet looks like it is glued as an afterthought to the back of the booklet and it jut really is tacky not fitting to an artist like Sting. I really hate these paper sleeves they damage the discs and they are not very hard wearing at all, wish they would just use the normal plastic double cases.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great music but price too high 5 Nov 2011
Format:Audio CD
Nobody can argue that Sting is a huge talent, and also it goes without saying this is a great collection of his songs. But having had chance to look through the boxset(not my own I add) I can not help but feel its worth around half the asking price, especially as there are boxsets by other worldwide acts with many more discs going for far less.
Don't get me wrong the boxset is well presented and looks good, its just the price tag dragging it down in my view.

I am going to sit and wait until it drops to around 35 to 40 and then snap it up, and for the music its a 5 star effort.

3.0 out of 5 stars Stung 22 Jun 2013

Buy with caution. For no apparent reason there's a double and a single disc version of this, same cover, no explanation, just half the tracks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sting album. 12 Mar 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Great double Album. Some people don't like the cardboard case it comes in but it doesn't bother me, if anything it saves space in the CD cupboard. If you like Sting but don't want to buy all his Albums, well just get this one. Well worth it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Message in a Box Set 25 Oct 2011
By Mr. 880
Format:Audio CD
As the reviews to this, the most deluxe choice in the variations of 25 Years that can be bought in the run-up to Christmas, show, you should never let a person's reputation get mixed up with their record company's imperative to milk the back catalogue for all its worth. You can virtually see the Sting "people" sitting in a smoke-filled room debating the merits of global warming and just how much timber they're putting into these additions of admittedly yet another version of the man's Greatest Hits package, with a mischievousness that they just know is going to push the buttons of certain people. Given that Sting's name automatically throws up particular topics, it's slightly surprising that someone hasn't brought up "tantric sex" yet, but there's time. This view of Pantomime Sting, as the virulent reactions to a recent profile in The Guardian suggesting he was almost a decent bloke demonstrate, is something not easily broken by parts of a disgruntled public who always thought the former Police-man was too smart for his own good. But listen closely and you'll hear the sound of a slight rehabilitation coming over the horizon. The Word magazine recently described him as the "Damon Albarn you're not allowed to like" and if you take away the alleged environmental credentials, sexual prowess with Trudie, and occasionally dubious politics, you're left with a set of songs over his solo career that are wildly different, often inventive, and which use jazz, soul, reggae, African beats, disco, rap and rock all merged into a sometimes effortlessly constructed pop sheen. But like Coldplay currently, U2 recently, and Simply Red for most of their career, liking Sting comes with a price. Read more ›
