Tigertailz fans haven't quite had to wait 16 years for a follow-up to the band's 1990 milestone album - there have been 1991's stop-gap `Banzai!', 1994's much-delayed and rerecorded `Wazbones', and finally 1996's live best-of `You Lookin' At Me?'. Spiritually speaking however, this is the true follow-up to `Bezerk' and from the moment Tigertailz's 5th studio album roars into life, you know things are never gonna be the same again. It's time to throw off your cardigan and slippers, dig out the wife's high-heels, your daughter's hair-straighteners, and (depending upon how unkind the intervening years have been to your waistline) maybe even your grandmother's girdle. It's as if the last 12 years never happened!

The majority of `Bezerk 2.0' was written well before the band's 2004 reformation. And with the album recorded on a self-financed basis (prior to the band signing to Demolition Records), you could be forgiven for expecting `Bezerk 2.0' to sound dated and cheap. However, what you have here is a collection of 12 superbly crafted songs, pulled together into a cohesive album with a top quality production job from the band's friend and "5th member" Tim Lewis. The result? Glam Metal has never sounded so NOW!!!

Kicking off with the eponymous `Bezerk', the 'Tailz set their stall out from the start with monsterous riffage and sound effects aplenty, before launching into the catchy as hell `Do It Up' - a track that will be familiar to anyone who has caught the band at any one of the handful of live dates played since their return. Right from the start you know that this album is a return to the `classic' `Tailz sound of the `Bezerk' era, rather than a continuation of the heavier / darker sounds displayed on the `Wazbones' album.

A long awaited release from the Welsh kings of glam metal. Opening the packaging there is a sense of trepidation. Will content match expectationz? Fortunately, from the opening seconds of the aural soundscape that is "Bezerk" there are smiles all round. Tis crystal clear that the Tailz truly have delivered the goods. First song proper("Do It Up"), has a swaggering riff and a trademark catchy chorus. Next up "One Beat Of Your Heart" starts worryingly close to old fave "Love Overload" but soon develops into a monster singalong original. Four songs in and with "I Believe" the Tailz come up with a classic power ballad, Jay Pepper's guitar intro soars while Kim Hooker's voice being in particularly fine form. This one has got everything thrown in - including the kitchen sink! Awesome! At this point I'm ready to play everything again but there's more to come...

Rerecorded versions of "Make Me Bleed" and "Dirty Needlez" retain the power of the Wazbones originals yet add sparkle and a slick production, both worthy of inclusion. "Falling Down" goes in an unexpected and new direction with tribal chanting and a fabulous bass groove from Pepsi Tate. Brilliant! "Get Real" and "For Hatez Sake" follow a more traditional 'Tailz big riff and bigger choruses formula while still adding something new to the melting pot. "TVOD" seems perhaps the weakest song here on first hearing, but this is more to do with the strength of the compositions that sit either side than any lack on its part. But its a grower that bounces along, with a great lyric. Bound to be a killer live. "Anniez Song" provides light and shade while "Suger Fever" is bubblegum rock in a class of its own. A Love Bomb for a new generation?

In conclusion Bezerk 2.0 does what it says on the (typically fab) packaging.

WOW, THEY REALLY ARE BACK! 18 Oct 2006

Tigertailz was one of those fringe hair bands that never really made it big in the U.S. during the 80s and early 90's. They have a distict sound, with vocals that are slightly raw, but with a musical punch. They can do ballads or sleeze rock equally well.

With that being said, I am glad that they have decided to get back together. This is the next logical step in their musical journey. (Forget WAZBONES, their throw-away last album) This is the true follow up to BANZAI and BERZERK. The sound is still intact, unlike many 80's bands who try to recapture what they had, and fail. There are a couple of modern sounding songs, but at their best, they have the wit and songwriting syle of Kix. Many of the songs go down like syrupy candy, but there are enough twists here to keep your interest. Tigertailz was never more than a 4-star band for me, so this ranks up there as THEIR BEST work to date!
