Spain released, PAL/Region 2 DVD: LANGUAGES: English ( Mono ), Spanish ( Mono ), Portuguese ( Subtitles ), SPECIAL FEATURES: Interactive Menu, Scene Access, SYNOPSIS: Monica Rivers (Joan Crawford), is the owner and ringmaster of a traveling circus and who'll stop at nothing to draw bigger audiences. When a series of mysterious murders begins to occur and some of her performers die gruesomely, her profits soar. She hires high-wire walker Frank Hawkins (Ty Hardin), impressed by the handsome and muscular young man. They begin an affair which arouses her previous lover Durando's (Michael Gough) jealousy. When Durando is found dead shortly afterward, the other performers begin to take alarm, as a mysterious killer is obviously loose in their midst. Many suspect Monica herself of the killings, especially Matilda (Diana Dors), who has set her sights on Monica's new lover. At this point, Monica's unruly, sixteen-year-old daughter Angela (Judy Geeson), is expelled from school for being incorrigible and Monica is forced to take her into the circus, allowing her to become the partner of knife-thrower Gustavo (Peter Burton). Meanwhile, the dead bodies continue to pile up... ...Berserk ( Berserk! ) ( Circus of Terror (Circus of Blood) )

5.0 out of 5 stars berserk 25 Sep 2011
No ~ this is not a film about Viking warriors hacking foes at Stamford Bridge, but a slice of British cinema with a great cast set in the world of the circus. Seems somewhat dated but great fun all the same.

4.0 out of 5 stars What is it about the circus? 1 July 2010
By SJP29
Joan Crawford stars as Monica Rivers, a domineering circus owner/ringmaster with one thing on her mind: money. When a killing spree breaks out, and members of the troupe start dropping one by one, everybody becomes a suspect (including Ms. Rivers). There are one or two very entertaining moments, and for an obviously low-budget production there are enough famous faces in it (Joan Crawford, Diana Dors) to save it from the clutches of obscurity. However, for a horror/slasher film, I didn't find it particularly scary or suspenseful. If, like me, you enjoyed the recent BBC television series, Psychoville, I suspect that you'll enjoy this film too.

4.0 out of 5 stars New Columbia Classics are on the right lines! 8 Nov 2011
I love horror films from the 60's and 70's era. I have only ever seen this film once on TV and it must have been at least 10-15 years ago. Therefore I was very pleased to add this DVD to my extensive collection. Essentially a good old fashioned thriller-horror in which members of a travelling circus cast are murdered one by one. Don't expect much gore [there's very little] - but well worth a look if you haven't seen it before. My only disappointment is the absence of special features.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than I expected 3 July 2002
By A Customer - Published on
I was half expecting this video to be yet another horrible anime, but it surprised me. It was quite actually fairly well done. The animation isn't all that great and consists of a lot of comic book style freeze frames. A lot of the blood spatter effects look really stupid too. The fact that it has subtitles allows for better dialogue and takes away the chance of some American "dubber" to ruin the film. Plot wise, the story begins in the "present day" I guess and then goes back into a long series of flashbacks, which will explain everything up to said present day. Aside from the frist episode, which appears to make little sense, the plot for Berserk is very well crafted and fast paced. It is the story of an orphan boy who is raised a mercenary and becomes a reknown warrior fighting for an army called the Band of the Hawk, led by the white hawk, Griffin. This first video basically shows Guts' (the main character's) first few years and battles with the Band of the Hawk, but ends before anything else can happen. This isn't the best anime I've ever seen, but it's enjoyable and worth seeing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beginning of a great series 4 Sep 2003
By "torse" - Published on
This is the first few installments in a great series. First episode you get to meet our tragic hero Gutts. Also goes through a few things you won't understand yet. The next few epidsodes are flashbacks building you up to the world of berserk. Quite a good story however the series ends leaving you hanging for more.
