Product Description

Review

"Written with a verve and confidence that never lets up, this excellent novel well deserves the large audience it should get." (The Independent)

"This is a fantastic book, from the moment I picked it up, it had me gripped." (Amazon)

"Fatherless, 15, and often in trouble, Chas, is living with his tough-as-nails grandmother and dealing with the death of his brother. On a lark, Chas sends a letter to a death row inmate as a joke. When the prisoner is unexpectedly released and comes looking for payback, Chas's involvement brings increasing danger to his family and friends. Though narrator Jerome Pride sounds a bit old for a teenager, his appropriate accent, expressiveness, and energy make this performance an involving listen. He infuses humor and a mischievous likability into Chas's character, rescuing him from being just another young thug. The listener can't help liking Chas as he perseveres when things become complicated and dangerous. Teenagers will enjoy this walk on the wild side." Ally's second book is just as powerful as her first (Beast), but with a lighter quality that I loved. The characters really made it for me, they are funny and daring whilst also being very believable. Not to give away the ending, but the action-packed finale had me gripped.

Format: Paperback
I read this book in school last year as part of a a book club. It was one of the few books that everyone was impressed by. The storyline is gripping, with the perfect balance of humour and darkness. I read it in one night, it was one of the few truly un-put-downable books I have read. 5 stars!

Just as fantastic as the first book, kept me in suspense throughout. Just like the first I couldn't put it down and the characters really add to it with the humour. If you've read the first one you really need to read them all.
