Format:Audio CD
Leaving aside the spectacular Bernstein score, the energy level (it leaps out at you) and the singing make this a truly wonderful recording. Chita Rivera powers through 'America' and Larry Kert and Carol Lawrence have beautiful and beautifully matched voices. Larry Kert's 'Maria' and 'Something's Coming' are two of the biggest highlights of this recording. One of the best Original Broadway Cast recordings ever.

I still have the original LP of this recording, which I bought after seeing the show in London fifty years ago. I had been looking for it on CD for years, so am delighted with this reissue. It has all the raw energy of the original show, which 'blew me away' at the time. The sound quality is excellent,and the bonus orchestral tracks make the whole album even better. Highly recommended.

I first saw West Side Story in London in the 60s. It was breathtaking then and has lost none of its quality.The CD is a recording of the original broadway show and it retains its energy. This is the benchmark for all musicals. Produced by masters of music and lyrics that can't be improved on. Poignant,funny,hopeful,angry songs as relevant today as they were 50 years ago.Knife crime still destroys lives and bigotry and prejudice still undermine our communities. Listen to the words.Take your young people to see the show or the movie.

Its a classic
