Although the original authors, Berne and Levy, have now sadly passed away, their legacy textbook lives on, updated by Bruce Koeppen and Bruce Stanton. Compared with the 5th edition, the 6th has much better colour diagrams and has been simplified in places. A little of the detail, particularly mathematical detail, appears to have been lost in places, but overall the text remains a heavyweight in the fundamental physiology field.
I still use this book as a first source when preparing undergraduate lectures in physiology.

Amazing easy to read and enough terminology to get great grades but easy to understand for people like me returning to study after 30 years in a working environment and never been to a university before.
In New Zealand we are using this as a second year reommended text and this has got me through my mid semesters. Good luck to all out there I highly recommend this text.

Very well written text. The color images are a real improvement over older editions, both for their clarity and for their paedagogical value. The internet access is a very wellcome improvement too.
The chapter organisation is very logical, and the subjects are dealt in a clear cut and direct way.
The "clinicals" help the understanding of the contents and their aplications to "rel life" situations.
In a word: Excellent!
