Well-selected vocabulary, durable cards 25 Jun. 2012
By Margaret A. Mcglinch - Published on Amazon.com
This box contains 1000 English/Spanish vocabulary cards, and I've found them extremely helpful in building (or refreshing) a command of basic Spanish. Most of the words are well-selected and not too exotic: they did a good job of choosing simple words and phrases one is likely to encounter over and over. All of the cards are white print on a blue background on the English side, and blue print on a white background for the Spanish side--they are not color-coded by part of speech or topic like some brands of cards. The cards themselves only contain the word and its definition, with no other notations except for the occasional word labeled ES or LA to indicate that it is used primarily in Spain or Latin America. Unfortunately, the cards only print the infinitive form of verbs with no indication of whether the verb is irregular in any way (as so many Spanish verbs are). That can lead to mistakes or having to relearn those words in the future, but I don't think it'll be a major issue. And that's the only substantive criticism I would offer of the cards--other than that, I think they're excellent and I've used them extensively. Physically, the cards work fine--they are printed on a light card stock that is a bit more durable than paper, fine for stashing in a pocket or purse, and they are a comfortable size to handle. For the price, I highly recommend them.

what flashcards are meant to be 13 Nov. 2012
By Santoku, Mr. - Published on Amazon.com
I bought these after trying the Vox Spanish Vocabulary Flashcards. These Berlitz cards show one word (or sometimes a short phrase) in English on the blue side of the card, and the same word or phrase in Spanish on the opposite white side. Unlike the Vox cards, these are simple, clear, and to-the-point.

The cards themselves are 2 x 3.5" ...which is a bit small, but the text is reasonably large...approx 1/4" high. It's the perfect size for personal study, and maybe okay for group/classroom study if the students are close enough to be able to read them. The paper is non-laminated and thinner than playing cards, but reasonably durable.

These come in a cardboard box arranged alphabetically (according to the Spanish side). But you might want to shuffle the cards before using them. My only complaint is that the cards fit tightly in the box...they are hard to get out and back in.

A Solid Product for a Time Tested Method of Building Vocabulary 27 Mar. 2014
By Quinn - Published on Amazon.com
What can you say about flash cards? It's a decent assortment of 1000 frequently used words or very short phrases on small cards with clear type. It's just the English word on one side in white type on a blue background and the Spanish word on the other with blue type on a white background. You won't find definitions or verb conjugations, but they do provide the proper article for nouns so that you know the gender. The cards are small enough that you can put a few dozen in a shirt pocket to have handy if you're on the go. They're a great supplemental vocabulary builder to go with the classes, books, audio lessons, or whatever other type of learning program you're using.

Although there are flash card apps available now, I still like the paper cards for those times when I can't get at a computer or just need to put away the electronics for a while. I also find I can develop my own spaced repetition method with cards that works better for me than the typical app algorithm. This is an old school method of learning, but it's still around because it works so well.

like any other language in the world 31 Dec. 2014

Flash cards are one of the most effective tools not only to learn a new language but also to learn algebra, chemistry, and so forth. Spanish, like any other language in the world, has its own regionalisms, therefore, do not expect to find definitions that meet your own region. Those card that don't fit your criteria, just get rid of them and move on. I bought this set of cards for my daughter who is trying to learn Spanish at the high school. Personally, I have learned four languages and I have found using flash cards to be one of the most effective ways to commit vocabulary to memory. Best wishes.

Perfect for practice during short periods of time. Just mark where you left off & continue later. Very motivating.
