What a neat little package this is. This really is a pocket guide, it will fit in the average jacket pocket. There are many things I love about this guide. If you are making a quick hello visit, check out the 10 Top Attractions page to make sure you see the unforgettable. The guide also covers sights in detail, far more than you would imagine in such a tiny book, so this is not just for the day tripper. There are eight pages devoted to Pompeii, better than some larger format guides. I also rate the Perfect Day in Naples page highly. This guide includes what to see, where to go, food and drink including a menu reader, places to eat and all the practical information on driving, transport, police and more. The only niggle is, being compact and petite, the suburban rail and metro map is good and the Pompeii map is fair but buy a fold out map of the area and Naples as an extra. This review first appeared on Karen Platt's book review website.

I do like the Berlitz guides, nicely produced, give simple basic ways of getting around another country, and a few words likely to be needed in Italian, how to buy tickets etc and it doesn't weigh one down on a day out sightseeing, and fits nicely in one's pocket or bag.

I bought two guide books (and a map) from Amazon. They all arrived together on time. Berlitz was the one I carried around in my handbag: first because it was small, and second because it had some really useful fold-out maps within the covers. The physical quality was excellent; the cover and its maps were thick and shiny, and still in good condition after a week of hard use in somewhat rainy conditions. It saved us a lot of time by listing the 'must-sees' and giving helpful routes and background notes as we 'did' the ruins and surrounding area in an all too brief week

If you are traveling during the off season, this book is fairly useless. I visited in March, not realising that many/ most places and facilities don't open until April. So all three recommended restaurants in Sorrento, for example, were closed. The only two maps are of Naples and Pompeii, and the map of Pompeii is useless.
The major attractions of Pompeii and Herculaneum were given just 4 pages, which seemed completed unsufficient.
Perhaps I found this book just OK because I didn't go to Naples or Capri, but I can certainly say that the Amalfi coast is not described well or in much detail at all. I relied on Trip Advisor and generally using Google to get the information I wanted.
I know there's only so much one can expect from a pocket guide, but I expected more than what I got from this book I'm afraid.

Bought this for our trip to sorrento...Had handy tips in the back of the book, and bits of history on each place in and around sorrento..I tried getting one of these books in well known bookshops but could not get one for this topic...Good old Amazon came up trumps

I was looking for a relatively cheap book on sorrento and surrounding places of interest and picked this due to its handy size, can easily be carried in a pocket or handbag. It doesn't contain much info on sorrento but having now visited the place, I can now see why, sorrento doesn't have that much to offer but is perfectly fine to use as a base to discover the likes of Pompeii,Herculaneum,Capri, the Amalfi coast, etc which are all covered in this handy little book. We didnt get as far as Naples as there is such a lot to see in this area,a week isn't really long enough to explore everything,so this book might get a second outing next year
