1.0 out of 5 stars not a good by ! 30 Sep 2010
By Marc
I`m studying hindi at the moment and brought this phrasebook to one of my lessons.
My teacher said, that they use words and phrases you wouldnt normally use; to formal...
he calls it " hindi for airplanes "
You would never use that "high hindi" on the streets, people won`t understand.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hindi Phrase Book 18 May 2013

Although it seemed like most Indians spoke English, some of the Rickshaw drivers didn't. This is not an easy language but the book helped especially with pronounciation.

1.0 out of 5 stars Hindi without grammar 18 Dec 2012
By George, M.A. "Jorge" - Published on Amazon.com
I did get a copy of this book. I have used a number of Berlitz books and phrase books in my lifetime- from records,to casettes, now I did get a C.D. with this set. The Hindi Book is just a phrase book and some basic phrases change in the book as "How much is that?" which can be confusing to the user. There is no basic grammar section in the book even to conjugate the verb "to be" "hona" in Hindi. Verbs change in Hindi according to the gender of the person if I am speaking or a woman is speaking. The Hindi print is very small, so a magnifying glass is a tool you might need. One of the phrases you learn on the C.D. is "Please Point to the Phrase in the book".
