This concert of the Berlin Philharmonic visting St. Petersburg, is very enjoyable to watch. There are excellent soloists (Beethoven Romances were excellent not only by the solo violin but by the BPO winds as well). The Beethoven 7th Symphony includes all repeats, excellent conducting by Abbado and the BPO on top form (former solo flautist Pahud is amazing in playing). Abbado's tempos are perfectly judged, the visual is excellent, sound is excellent (the one oddity is that the horns in the Beethoven 7th are distant in the recording). I thought it to be an excellent disc.
