I thought I would take the time to review the ‘Berghaus EXPEDITORLEA AQ TECH BOOT AM’ hiking boot that I purchased December last year. Initially the boots were bought for a last minute hiking holiday in Peru; which I sadly couldn’t make. Instead they saw an entirely different terrain in the French Alpes as the footwear of choice when frequenting the town of Alpe D’Huez after an arduous days snowboarding.

The boots are modest in appearance, sleek and elegant, the subtle yellow trims complementing the black and grey body. I personally felt they offered a professional look that could comfortably hold their own discretely in a less activity based environment. This was important, being a young single male; I didn’t wish to be categorised as someone who wears wind/water resistant clothing to a cinema or running shoes on a night out… As this is generally comes to you naturally later in life after many years of marriage has eaten away at your self-respect.

When I tried the boots on for the first time in the store I was met with a mixture emotions: delightfully surprised at their lack of weight but apprehensive to what has been sacrificed to achieve it. Were the seams going to burst open leaving my ankles naked with a bitter wind cutting away at them like barbed wire…? Would they offer the durability and contact protection of a wet Espadrille, my feet battered and bruised so that I may have well been walking on my shins? No. How wrong I was to waste time worrying. If I was so inclined I could have spent hours kicking large rocks and my feet would have remained pretty and soft. There were literally no days spent wrapping my heels in plasters as I ‘bedded’ them in either - they immediately hugged onto my ankles and accepted my feet as if they were their own children.

I've had these boots a couple of weeks now so have been able to give them a good test. They are instantly very comfortable and their sizing is accurate. I take an 8 and unlike many other brands an 8 from Berghaus fits perfectly.
They were instantly comfortable and have not required any breaking in period. As I walk my dog over fields, I've had the opportunity in the recent rain to test them out for their waterproofing qualities. Walking for some way in long wet grass they didn't let a drop in. When I got home my feet were bone dry.
So, comfortable and waterproof. Highly recommended.

Walked for 5 and a half hours through the worst weather I've ever walked in. Through puddles mud snow and my socks where bone dry at the end of the day. 'Nuff said!

Bought these as a birthday present for my son to walk 20 miles a day in the Peak District. He wore them from new for the four day hike and says they were blissfully comfortable. Full marks.

Good boot... lightweight and fairly waterproof. Not built to last though. Moderate usage and sole came away within a year allowing wet feet. Not great in such an expensive brand!

I have just started doing some proper outdoor activities and needed a decent walking boot. Deciding its a false economy to go for the budget end I opted for the well known make of Berghaus.

Well all I can say is I'm impressed.I have been up Pen y Ghent twice, Ingleborough and up and down Oltley chevin and Ilkely Moor.

They fit well (I'm a size 11 and with thick socks on it fits perfect) - they are definitely waterproof - used them through november and december so the weather has been very wet - been through marsh, bog, shallow streams, long grass and feet have remained dry throughout. I haven't slipped in them, they feel very sturdy and support my ankles.

I haven't had any other decent walking boots to compare them to but cannot find a fault in these from the 3 months use they have had.

Like some other reviewers I had to go up a half-size to get a reasonable fit, and even then they were neat, verging on the tight. After a few walks they've stretched a bit and are now very comfortable. Seem to be good quality and completely waterproof. Soles are quite hard, so they're fine on grass, mud etc, but not great on ice.

Firstly I didnt necessarily purchase these for hiking. I just wanted a good quality pair of comfy walking boots that would keep my feet warm and dry during the cold muddy winter days, when I either take the dog for a walk or watch the son playing sport.

In the past I made the mistake in purchasing a pair of supposedly half price karrimors for 30 quid which despite the price have been woeful, I literally may as well wear slippers out because my feet are absolutely drenched, even when the grass just has some morning dew.

As a result I thought Id buy a decent pair rather than trying to wing it. So at £52 for the Walnut pair these have been a great buy, comfy, look great and more imporatantly dry feet. Just to add Im a good size 10 and have found the fit spot on.
