My wife and I have been waiting for Bergerac to appear on DVD. We now have the complete series 1 through 9 and have had many enjoyable hours watching Jim. We're just sorry the series was so short, another 9 seasons would have been nice, if the writers could have continued to provide good scripts and supporting characters. The final episode of series 9 didn't measure up to the standards set by all of the previous shows.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bergerac: Series 9 6 April 2010
By SilentSinger TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:DVD
Although I've managed to catch the majority of this final series on the digital channel Alibi it was interesting to see it in the correct order. Series 9 shows the titular former Detective Sergeant Bergerac working for his former father-in-law Charlie Hungerford as a private investigator and splitting his time between France, Jersey and England. The series also documents Jim's relationship with his French girlfriend Danielle, who appears in a handful of episodes.

Some of the episodes are better than others, ones which particularly stand out are the downright odd `Warriors' set in France and the one about the cult of Atlantis. I'm not sure if it really works as some of the plots are downright dull and it's fairly unbelievable that Jim can still call on his former police colleagues for assistance and information pertaining to the various assignments he's been given.

Inaccuracies aside, it's nice to be able to round up this successful series in a fitting way and the final episode, a double length Christmas special is well worth a watch. Primarily set in Bath, It reunites Jim with his ex-wife Debbie and guest stars the wonderful Simon Williams and features Philip Glenister in an early role.

3.0 out of 5 stars Farewell to Jersey 16 Sep 2009
Format:DVD
This is the last series of Bergerac and to be honest I wasn't sure I wanted to get it. My memory was that it wasn't very good. But to complete the set I ordered it and am pleased to report that it was better than I remembered!

Bergerac has now left the Bureau (although he still seems to spend a lot of time there) and is a private detective sharing a suite of offices with Charlie. Not much of the action actually takes place in Jersey, we're in France for a fair amount of time and also in England. The ex Mrs Bergerac puts in an appearance in the final extended (Christmas) episode, but I'm afraid there's no Ice Maiden.

These are not the greatest of stories and this is definitely not the place to start with Bergerac but if you've made it to series 8 then don't give up now, series 9 is no worse and I think it could be just slightly better.

Excellent storylines, a bit different from the sex and violence of the more modern programs. I have the whole series and enjoy the easy going acting that seems natural. Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Jersey Cop always interesting
John Nettles is great as Bergerac. I have collected all the series. Such a pity that John is retiring from Midsomer Murders - it's good old-fashioned interesting entertainment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bergerac
I felt sad that the Bergerac series had come to an end. Series 9 is different from all the others and it left me wondering how Bergarac would get on in his new job.
