Powering along in his Triumph sports car, Jim hits the trail of the island's murderers, fraudsters and big-time thieves in more all action cases. This series finds him still in his long-term relationship with Susan Young, though Jim's dedication to the job is causing difficulties and the return of his admirer, the glamorous jewel thief Phillippa Vale doesn't help either. This series has some strong storys and excellent performances by John Nettles and his two new assistants in their first series(David Kershaw and John Telfer).The highlights are Man of Sorrows and The Sin of Forgiveness which is about a Nazi Hunter.This DVD also has the Christmas special which is very good.Unfortunately there are many edits which spoilt the first series and some other episodes on the other DVD's,I think the first episode on this release must have at least five minutes missing,which is puzzling and dissapointing.Some of the other episodes have edits but are nearer the original running times.Lets hope further releases have no edits.4 stars because of the edits.

This is good old-fashioned Saturday night entertainment from the 80s. Sure, some of the acting is poor, and some of the story lines a bit thin, but it beautifully captures a bygone era when we still trusted our polititians and mobile phones looked like house bricks. Worth watching.

As always,good,short stories (approx 45 mins).Picture quality not brilliant,but then the series is approx.20-25 years old. Read more
