Product Description

In the popular 80s crime series of Bergerac, Jim Bergerac (John Nettles, who went on to star as Inspector Barnaby in Midsomer Murders) is a recovering alcoholic, divorcee and father to a young daughter. He is a Detective Sergeant with the Bureau des Etrangers, a department for non-residents on the Channel Island of Jersey. A true maverick, Jim, likes doing things his own way and consequently doesn't always carry out his investigations in the traditional manner, the way his boss might like.

Bergerac ran for a decade from 1981 to 1991 with nine series and six specials.

Series five saw Bergerac back on screen after a year-long break and was made up of nine episodes including a Christmas Special. It aired in early 1987.

Featuring:
Episode 1 : "The Memory Man"
Episode 2: "Winner Takes All"
Episode 3: "Root and Branch"
Episode 4: "Desirable Little Residence"
Episode 5: "The Deadly Virus"
Episode 6: "S.P.A.R.T.A."
Episode 7: "Thanks for Everything"
Episode 8: "Poison"
Christmas Special: "Treasure Hunt"

Synopsis:
As uncompromising as ever, Bergerac continues to do things his way, occasionally falling foul of his superiors as he does so. And the beautiful island of Jersey is still a magnet for the mixed assortment of eccentric and notorious crimimals, ensuring that Jim is kept busy...

By David TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:DVD
I remember watching Bergerac when it was first show on tv many years ago. The fifth series is by far the best of all the series. So far each series got better and better with the fourth series being almost as good. Sadly things started to go downhill after this and the quality was never achieved again. The stories are well written with the episodes Poison, The Deadly Virus and Root And Branch being the highlights.

Once again certain edits have been made but it doesn't spoil the enjoyment of the episodes, after all this is the only way we can watch the series unless you have cable.

One final plus the BBC have scrapped the cheap cardboard packaging and replaced it with nicer plastic casing which is alot more durable. So settle down and enjoy a classic piece of BBC tv nostalgia.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another good series 17 Sep 2007

Format:DVD
This series continues the high standards of the previous series, the minor edits don't distract from the storylines unlike series one on DVD.The episodes are all well written with some good humour thrown in from time to time. The episode Poison is particulary excellent about freemasons as is Root and Branch. This is high quality drama in interesting settings, well worth buying.I think Bergerac got even better with the next two series, lets hope the DVD's include the christmas specials which were very well made.
