4.0 out of 5 stars Very good and a bargain 10 Jan 2013

Nice sturdy case closer (there are plenty of cheap flimsy ones about). You can snap many a case closed after battery changes etc. with strong fingers, but stubborn ones can be a real nuisance.

This case closer is heavy and all-metal construction apart from the interchangeable dies, which are necessarily plastic so that they don't scratch or damage the watch case or glass. When you first take it out of the box, it's in the closed position so turn the small key on the side to unlock it. Then you need to choose one of the concave dies to fit the front of your watch - find one where the rim of the die will press on the outer metal case of your watch front, not on the glass itself, then place your chosen die on the lower part of the press (just push it down onto the spoke). Then choose a flat (non-concave) die which will cover all or most of the back plate of your watch. Push that up onto the upper spoke of the press. Carefully align your watch on the press so that the glass fits into the dent/concave and the loose case back is right in position* and push the main press lever down. Job done. I've added a photo at the top of the page showing it set up ready to press.

*One tip: when you place the loose case back onto the watch case, ready to press, always check whether there's a small notch in the rim of the case back - there often is - to accommodate the winder stem. If so, be sure to line it up over the winder stem.

You might find with today's bigger watches you'll wish there were some larger sized dies in this kit (biggest provided is 40mm) but there are a few places on-line where you can buy those separately.

5.0 out of 5 stars High Quality Item, Very Good Price 8 Jan 2012

This is a high quality, well made item , and is a lot cheaper than similar items. It is solid and heavy and does its job very well.Highly recommended.

Update :

I have used this watch press on many different shaped watches to refit the backs after fitting new batteries. I cannot believe how easy this item makes it to carry out this task. There are many different sized plastic inserts, which in different combinations will protect most watch faces. When I first used it,I double checked that the backs were on properly as this press made it so quick & easy to do ! I use this for amateur use,but it would easily stand up to more frequent use.

I decided to buy this watch press instead of getting the battery replaced in town as an investment, and because it is more convenient to be able to DIY at home.

I eventually managed to get the back back on the case of my watch, but did not realise which dies to use - eventually, I worked out that it was necessary to use a concave die on the back of the case in order to apply more pressure to the rim and press it in to place.

Next time, I'll have the case back on in no time.

The product is well made, and I can not fault the construction, the only thing it needs is some better instructions!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Tool 1 Mar 2012
A work colleague asked me to change the battery on his Rotary watch which proved a little troublesome. First of all the back would not come off using standard snap case tools but I did eventually manage it when a new specialised opener I had ordered, arrived in the post.
Then I couldn't get the case back to click back on despite pressing with all my weight.
This tool did the job in seconds with the only time consuming element being the selection of the correct size plastic discs.
Well pleased with the purchase it's well constructed, heavy duty and will last me for years in my hobby of watch repairs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Berger & Schroter Watch Glass Back Press 6 Dec 2012
Verified Purchase
Having struggled unsuccessfully to replace the back of one watch in particular by a number of means after changing the battery, I decided to purchase the Berger & Schroter Press. I've always liked to have the right tool for a job, even if I only use it once a year and this is one of those tools. Having selected the correct size cups, I couldn't believe how easy it was to press the back into place after spending so much time previously with sore thumbs and fingers!
It's robustly made and good value as well. I can't wait until the next watch battery expires so that I can use it again!
Treat yourself!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic 7 Feb 2013

Only used this once so far.
I replaced a battery in a watch around six months ago, but despite many attempts, just could not press the back cover back on.
Received this item, selected the right size dies & and the cover was back on in mere seconds.
The only instructions included are printed on the outside of the box.
Essentially, the concave dies are for the glass side, the flat dies are for the metal base side.
Select a concave die slightly larger than the glass, so that it presses down on the surrounding outer metal rim & not the glass.
Correctly orientate the metal back cover & squeeze gently until in clicks into place.
Now pat self on back for a job well done.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great item. 27 Nov 2012

I purchased this for replacing the snap on backs to my girlfriends watches after replacing their batteries and finding it too difficult to do manually. With this item, doing so is a breeze, and takes a second to replace the different sizes of plate which you need for larger watch sizes.

Cannot praise this item enough.

4.0 out of 5 stars effective
It does what it says on the tin. Be aware of the odd rogue back which just will not go into place, not necessarily the fault of the press.
