As with all the Berenstain Bears books, this one has beautiful, fun illustrations and is pleasing to the eye. This story centre around bad eating habits and looking after your body better. It is also educational on the working of the body and it's systems. It manages to get the important point of good health across while keeping it funny and very enjoyable for all. I find that my young son loves this and it's also easy for the very young to understand. An all round hit in our opinion, which we will continue to enjoy for a long time to come.

My children loved the Berenstain Bears, as do their children, so I bought this for my grandson as a stocking filler. I was disappointed by the fact that is rather more a pamphlet then a book, having no spine or binding. It does dwell on eating healthily (complete with High School biology diagram of the intestinal system) and no doubt spreads the message, but I expected it to be rhyming, with Papa Bear as ever in the right but disproved my the younger bears.....go to your GP if you feel in need of a ticking off for bad eating habits but I don't recommend this book (particularly in view of the number of child anorexics one reads about in the newspapers nowadays). Discarded in favour of "The Bike Lesson" - much more fun.

Great for teaching children about healthy foods 8 Oct. 1999
By A Customer - Published on
Format: Paperback
The book not only stresses eating healthy foods, but why our bodies need healthy foods. Book also gives a brief description of the body's different systems, digestive, skeletel, etc. Book finishes with the importance of exercise. Book stresses this lifestyle for children as well as adults.

Wonderful! 15 Dec. 2005
By Megan Romer - Published on
Format: Paperback
The world lost a real gem of a writer when Stan Berenstain passed on November 29. Together, Berenstain and his wife, Jan, and eventually their two sons, created books featuring lovable but flawed characters who tackle just about every real issue that faces families.

This book is no exception. Most people, especially kids, have a tendency to overindulge when it comes to junk food. This book shows that eating healthy is a lifelong pursuit (Papa Bear has the same troubles that the kids have). It's not intended as a primer on nutrition or exercize habits, but rather as a fictional story intended to promote conversations among families about healthy lifestyles. And for what it is, it's wonderful.

Too Much Junk Food 31 Oct. 2002
By Kati Lane - Published on
Format: School & Library Binding
This, like all other Berenstain Bears books, teaches a valuable lesson about eating healthy. It's a great story to inspire your child to eat healthy.
It all starts when Mama bear notices her cub are getting a bit chubby. So she takes all of the junk food in their house and locks it in the freezer. Well Papa bear wasn't too happy about this but he went along with it anyways. The next day the bears go to the grocery store. Mama Bear passes all the junk food and heads straight for the healthy food. At the checkout counter they run into their family doctor who tells them to stop by the next day. When they get there she shows them a slide show of how the body works and how much it needs healthy food. She also tells them to exercise.
This is a great story for kids who have a sweet tooth. It will show them that some healthy foods are good too. Also it can teach them that its good to have healthy food most of the time but a little snack is good here and there. Also it shows that exercise pays off, because in the end the bears are the only family to complete the Bear Country Marathon. I recommend this book to anyone. It's a great story and teaches a very valuable lesson. I am almost positive that you and your child will enjoy this book.

Little one loves this book 15 July 2007

I am not a huge fan of this book, but my daughter LOVES it, so I am giving it 5 stars. She refused to try a sticky bun tonight because 'it's junk food', so I appreciate that (we mostly eat healthy around here). I just hope that she never points at anyone out in public and says something like "they eat way too much junk food".

better teachers than i am... 18 Jan. 2007
By Melissa Mackay - Published on
Format: Paperback
l bought these books to give to my little nephew for christmas. we are now well grown out of berenstein bears' books, but my children and i remember them well! the kids loved them because, among other things, they were a longish and satisfying read with mom or dad, not a quickie, but a book with a real story, particularly effective for delaying bedtime with a long book. all the books teach and some of the lessons still echo down the years. 'messy build-up' has kept the kids' rooms fairly tidy for years. manners? well, manners pave the way in life like few other things and are so critically important. junk food? there's an important message to teach about junk food and we needed all the help we could get with reinforcing it. we have a foot high stack of the berenstein books upstairs, carefully tucked away for the next generation. it is such a pleasure to buy them and give them as truly valuable gifts.
